Double Bass Favorite Vocal Jazz Recordings

Love this take on How High The Moon by Ella, perfect soloing. I can’t find info on the recording or players tho, perhaps someone else can find?

Someone raised Cyrille Aimee earlier - somewhere on the Sirius archives she was on one of Christian McBride’s “Lowdown” episodes. The duos they did were captivating, she’s incredible. Anyone got a link to that?

Also digging Jazzmeia Horn but don’t have anything specific to list, note to self to go find something.

Nothing for me has ever topped Billie Holiday and Lester Young or the first recording of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. Louis and Billie are my favorite jazz singers. Neither really has an instrument and both do everything through art.

Two of my favorite brilliant unorthodox jazz vocal recordings:

Just a few weeks ago, something reminded me of the name "Anita O'Day". (I see she's been mentioned by some other folks.)

I remember she had kind of a revival in the 80s when I was in college and starting to listen to a lot of jazz - I think this was kicked off by the publication of her autobiography.

But I hadn't listened to any of her stuff in 40 years. So I cued up some You Tuba, and man could she ever sing, swing, and drive a band! In another time, she'd have been a name bandleader, no doubt. Now that we can see videos, unlike back in the 80s when you might be able to find an album in the cut-out bins, or call in a request to the local college radio station during their two-hours-a-week jazz show - you can SEE these performers on stage and understand how they moved, interacted with the other musicians, and all that.
