fdecks HPF, Part II

That's exactly why mine is mounted "upside down" on the top row of my board. It puts the jacks in the "normal" order, and provides easier access to the controls. I can live with the print not being right side up.

Same here. It's a "set and forget" thing for me, so I just crank the knobs and go. No problems with the orientation of the input/output here.

Mine is mostly set it and forget it. I keep the volume on full, and typically leave the knee of the second filter at 35hz. That said, if a room is giving me grief down low, or I'm playing on a hollow stage and things just don't feel as tight as I'd like, I'll roll the knee frequency up until it tightens things up without giving away too much bottom end. I'm fortunate in that I only find myself doing that on some 25% of my gigs.

That's what I do too. default it's set to 35hz. If I'm on a troublesome stage or room, or our band soundguy says I'm washing in the room I roll it up until things clean up. It doesn't happen often, but when I'm not needing it for the room, its protecting my speakers.

Received my Series 3 today. Evey month or so, I play with a different band on a big hollow stage, with backline provided. It's a Peavey Mark somethng or other, with a 1x18 and 2x10 cabinet (one cabinet). It sounds terrible. It's boomy and some of the higher notes just disappear. I've already played with the amp's controls, tried two different compressors, Sansamp Para Driver, Sansamp BDDI and Carl Martin Para EQ. It still sounds like sh!t; lows boomy, highs disappear. I'm hoping the HPF will help... with the boom anyway.

Sounds like a good test. ;)

ya, I'd be happy to know if the HPF# can help over come crappy cab design. Those Peavey cabs were a good idea, but executed poorly. I used to use an SWR Big Bertha and Hartke 210XL back in the day and that rig rocked!

Question. I'm thinking of investing in one of these for my rig. Its a Starfire > Eden WT400 > Fearful 12/6. I currently am maxed out on volume overdriving on the low notes and sometimes even on the high notes, strangely? Anyways, adding an Fdeck HPF should allow me to drive my amp a little louder by removing some of the power dedicated to infrasonic frequencies correct? While at the same time tightening up the low end. I see a lot of people mention the safety it provides for their cabs but havent seen anyone mention what it does for their amp. I think I will eventually get a power amp for my rig but this HPF seems like a good addition to the signal chain.

My preamp used to clip my poweramp's input due to it passing deep lows. This is not a problem I have when running the HPF3 in my setup.

I've posted a couple of times about using the HPF3 with my Walkabout, specifically that it gave me some more dynamic headroom when running that amp at high volume.

Is anyone else NOT using their HPF on a pedal board? I'm thinking of just mounting inside my rack bag with Velcro. Or something.

Mine just sits on top of my rack most nights.

I run an instrument cable from the 'floor' (aka the line from my tuner/bass) up through the side handles on my cabs/amp/rack and into the HPF3 on top, then I have a short 1-foot cable that runs back down through the handle and into my preamp's input on the front of the rack.

I've thought about having it velcroed into the back of my rack but then didn't love the idea of having to 'reach around' to get to it if needed. Which depending on the gig situation goes from awkward to impossible once we're playing.

I don't have a pedal board, so I donno where I'm putting it. Maybe tie-wrapped to the EUB tripod stand or stuck to the back somehow. If I start playing out with pedals I'll have to think up something. If I put it in the effects chain, I'm not sure where - there are compelling arguments for before and after most of them. I'm thinking trial and error...

I hear you. I'll have to try it.

My experiences, FWIW:
- zip tied to the back of the tailpiece, easy in-line from my URB pickup, for simple setups. I have v. III (for reference), and the pre functions great for impedance matching if I have to go straight to the board (my GK and GB amps both handle this fine otherwise). Super convenient for festivals. Makes battery changes a little difficult, but not bad with planning.
- on my pedal board before everything else. Keeps the mud out of my other pedals, most helpful for envelopes and their tracking. Both URB and EB, in this case.

I would hesitate to put it in the back of my rack, only because back in the day I melted the components in a DOD DI on the last song of a killer set (when I had it tucked in there), lost the FOH. Newer amps don't generate the heat that my old Hartke head did, though, so YMMV.
