It's not what the tweeter is "in line" with; it's the polarity. Reverse one end of the + and - wires going to the tweeter if you have the 18Sound mid. I know it looks "wrong" but it's "right" in this case.
yeah remember I was the one who originally asked you about the polarity on the 12/6/1. you had told me back then that the 6a and the tweeter positives both went to the negative of the 3012lf and the negs went to the positives of the 3012lf. so is this still the case in which case on the 18 sound mid you would run 3015LF+ 18 sound mid - asd tweeter + together and 3015lf - 18 sound mid + asd tweeter - together?

I've been poring over fEARful threads, trying to prepare myself for a build, and I haven't stumbled across answers to a few questions:

1. Why are the bass drivers in dual-driver cabinets staggered diagonally? Can they be lined-up vertically without changing the sound?

2. Tweeter and midrange drivers are side-by-side; why aren’t tweeters, midrange drivers, and bass drivers installed in a straight vertical line?

3. The 1515/66 is a little larger than I like, but I like the idea. If I build a 15sub and a 15/66, will the 15/66 be listenable when used without the sub?

4. Can I make a cabinet narrower and taller as long as the internal volume and port volume remain the same, or are there additional considerations that must be taken into account?

5. Is there a downside to running fEARful cabs with an active crossover?

Thanks! :)

Great review, Sundogue! Man, you've got me Jonesing for my own 15/6 now. That's what I'm planning on "building" in about two months. I put "building" in quotes b/c I'm going to go w/one of Leland's flat packs. Glue, clamps, nail gun...the only tools I'll need for "building" my future cab. :ninja:

Seriously, your choice of words in your review made me read it twice just to imagine I had one. My Avatar 212 seems pale in comparison...and I don't even have the parts for the fEARful yet.

Has anyone not given a good review of a fearful?

Has anyone not given a good review of a fearful?

I recently brought my two 15/6 fearfuls to the Minneapolis/St Paul GTG held on 3/27.

The general consensus was that fearfuls sounded great with everything anyone tried through it. There were 20ish people and I was the only one with fearful experience. The walkabout driving just one was beautiful (gas inducing?)

Check it out in the Social Gatherings tab.

I'm on a phone so I can't reply in great detail, but here's some info...

1. The overall size is a factor. So the multiple driver cabs sacrifice a bit of line up to be a better overall box size. The amount out of vertical is minimal to the point of not worrying.

2. Same as point one. They've moved as close as possible while still being of a reasonable form factor. I can only guess that the fact that theyre also crossed over and presenting different frequencies also is a factor.

3. You might as well build two 15/6s. Or you could do so and install switchable padding for the mids.

4.There are other factors, namely how the port functions as the other walls get closer to the opening. That probably doesn't mean you don't have some leeway.

5. No. Unless flexibility is a problem.

Ok I'm still mulling over a 15/6/1 vs 1212/6/1. Eminence lists the sensitivity of the 3015lf as 99.8 dB and the 3012lf as 95.5 dB. So the 12" is down 4.3 dB to begin with. Adding a 2nd 3012lf gains me 3 dB so a 1212 is actually still down 1.3 dB compared to a 15/6 given the same input power. Let's say I am powering it with a Streamliner 900. Going from 500W at 8 ohms to 900W at 4 ohms gains about 2.5 dB.

Add it all up and the 1212/6 is only 1.2 dB louder than a 15/6. Are these numbers correct or am I missing something? It seems there is very little to be gained from the added weight, size, and expense of a 1212/6 over a 15/6. I realize the 1212/6 will handle more power but I am nowhere near the limits of the 15/6 so that is a moot point for me.

3015LF got revised down to 98.4. Which is closer to its calculated spl.

If you compare calculated sensitivity parameters you're looking at 94.12 db to 96.56db at least according to my numbers. So a bit less than 3db.

* The main advantage is you're approximately 3db louder with a micro amp before running out of steam.

UH, compare what's actually going on below crossover, then realize it could actually get some boost from moving energy in the crossover circuit from the region above, and then think about what the midrange driver actually is doing, which also can get some Q boost form the xover network. Or you could just take my word.

Things really haven't changed. I've listed what's what in the FAQ as far as what's louder than what... But some of you hand-wring forever, rather than getting on with things. Better do it now while you can still afford neo drivers though, chappies. Because if I have to find substitutes the cabs will be heavier and lose some performance in some areas.

A Kern and a 3000!

Show off! :p

Hey...I gotta show off a little, right? :crying:

Very nice! I bet that rawks! :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

Honestly, I don't know yet. I've given a test run to the Kern with a different power stage, and loved it. I can't imagine it would be terrible with a ton of headroom and a clean efficient powerful amp.

The gouging has already started...

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I bought two from them in the past couple years and they were 130-ish. Since I checked about a week ago, up 50 bucks. Git in while you can people, or your 500$ fEARful will become a 700$ fEARful. :bawl:

It's not gouging, at least on the mfg's part. They're more pissed than anybody. Every brand, make and model of neo is affected. It's liable to put a couple of companies that exclusively do neo's out of business.

I meant more in reference to those who have purchased the speakers and had them on hand. I'm sure that Beach didn't get theirs this week... ;)
