The T-nuts were installed on the baffle ahead of time and have some PL on them to help keep them from falling out. The bolt holes were really close to the cutouts so one tooth of the T-nut protrudes into the cutout.

Leland already covered the PL Premium to T-nuts thing, but I thought I'd assure everybody that almost always will a T-nut protrude beyond the cutout, that's just the nature of the beast.

Your crossovers look very nice. I hope you will add those to the Crossover Builds section in the Wiki.

Yep. Do your best to sink as many 'teeth' into the wood as possible, but I think both my 15" cabs had this going on. The 15 is the easier of the speakers to mount without t-nut tear out, because you can get your hand in there and put some pressure on if needed. If you have a tear out on your mid, you're SOL and maybe hacksawing out the screw if it goes really badly.

I'm on my 4th cab build and have never used T-nuts. For larger drivers I use the Recex screws that Speaker Hardware sells, and for the mid in my 12/6 I used regular wood screws. But I don't anticipate removing and reinstalling my drivers very often.

What is the difference between the RP/LDS x-over and the GB modified x-over on an LDS 156 KLLF 6ND410 sans tweeter?

Has anyone gone from a Bergantino nv610 to a fearful cab? I realize the tone will be completely different, but I am concerned with volume. Will a 15/6/1 keep up volume wise with an nv610? Or would a 1212/6/1 be a better option in order to get a 4 ohm load and the speakers up closer to my ears?

Currently powering my nv610 with one side of a QSC PLX2402 (700W @ 4 ohms), but will be downsizing to one of the microheads out there. Most likely a GB streamliner 900 (500W @ 8 ohms, 900W @ 4 ohms).

Hey Phat Ham,

here's what I say in the FEARful FAQ ...

A 1212/6 is going to be a little more sensitive yet, and will give you the 4-ohm advantage. But if you already have a big enough amp either the 15/6 or the 1212/6 is enough to surpass a 610. Even in terms of the same watts going into either some people percieve it that way because of the additional LF extension and the way they EQ... but to be fair, some people don't.

What's your amp?

I think (after watching a couple of TCs videos) that I have found my new favorite bass head. The GAS pains are starting..........

Yeah, it's not as much power as you COULD use, but it's likely close enough, and the EQ and comp and stuff are really right. That or the BX Carvins or the EA iAmp Pro all seem pretty well matched for fEArfuls.

Hows that new job going anyway?

PL used like this will provide no strength, at all. Nothing wrong with using it as caulking except the price. Two big advantages to using pl are strength and expansion. The Titebond is fine glue, but as a butt joint glue it's not as good as the pl. In a biscuit or dadoed cab where you have additional surface area, no biggie, as long as you get it air tight.

Use epoxy. Pl does not adhere to metal well. It needs porosity. If you should pull hard enough to spin the nut the pl won't help. Epoxy makes them virtually spin proof.

Leland, Thanks for the info. There's just so much information in these threads that it's hard to find all the best practices. I used the Titebond for all the rabbit and dado joints which fit very well together with no gaps. I used the PL for all the butt joints.

I didn't use hurricane nuts. I used the ones with the teeth protruding down from the base. The teeth will prevent the spinout. I saw a few posts where people talked about their t-nuts falling out so I put a dab of PL to help keep mine from popping out.

I had hoped my warning reached you before you got any further. But that didn't work out. I probably would have glued a strip of 1/4" plywood against the face of each holed segment in areas nearer the center of each panel and let it be nearer edges.

The way you did it will probably be fine though, since this is a 12/6 with its smaller panels.

I thought about gluing 1/4" ply to the sides as well. Structurally speaking, the flange should provide more rigidity though. It was also less work because I didn't have to deal with working around the PL beads. It also gave me an excuse to pull out my engineering text books.

Your crossovers look very nice. I hope you will add those to the Crossover Builds section in the Wiki.

Will do. BTW, I also created a SketchUp file for the 12/6 Cube. I also created a cutlist for 4x8 and 5x5. The 5x5 cutlist also works for 2 sheets of 30"x60" (can fit in a car) if your lumber store has them or can cut your 5x5 in half. I can post a PDF of the cutlists later.

Hey Phat Ham,

right now I have a rack that is basically a SansAmp RPM into a QSC PLX2402. I'm using one side of the QSC and getting 700W into my nv610. I will be downsizing from my rack most likely to a Streamliner 900.

I'm in a wedding/corporate cover band so we play a lot of hotel ballooms, country clubs, museums, and such which are all pretty big rooms. I think we have a couple outdoor gigs lined up this summer too. We have a pretty decent PA (JBL SRX 15" tops and one or two 18" subs per side) but our monitors suck so I can't count on having any bass in the monitors. I also play a Moog Little Phatty for some synth parts which I will be running through my rig.

I guess the question is will 500W into a 15/6/1 achieve the same perceived loudness as 700W into an nv610? Or should I be "safe" and get a 1212/6/1 for the extra few dB's of headroom? The main advantage to the 15/6 for me is the weight savings.

I can report that as of tonight, when my SKB 3-space NON-X rack showed up, I now have my complete 'big' setup happening.

Kern IP-777 ->
Peavey IPR-3000 ->
fEARful 15/6->
fEarful 15/sub.

The Peavey weighs less than the rack does. The Kern weighs more than both rack and IPR together.

I made up some special patch cords that are *just* long enough to reach from one unit to the other and to jump signal from one channel to the other so I could keep the back of the rack clean. I did make up a special bridge cable for the IPR, just to try it, but for the most part I'll be running either one cab off of each side, or both on one side depending.

Next Friday we'll be at a high school gymnasium (much to the chagrin of our keys player who attended that school about 20 years ago) doing a benefit, and I know I won't have any PA support. In fact, the IPR may end up as part of the PA rather than as my rig.

Either way, I'm looking forward to having a convincing sounding (high voltage) tube stage being driven by more power than you could realistically get from a tube amp.

The new job is great-almost as exciting as getting a paycheck every two weeks!! Enjoying all the exotic woods, and being able to be the first guy to pick through a jag of Figured wood is almost worth working there for free. Hows your job search going?

Yeah, that rh750 was just a cool looking head until I realized that the tone controls were all parametric-that really opens up the possibilities. I wish the 450 had that same thing-it would be perfect for a 12/6.

Do any real crankin' yet? Hey I found one of the more versatile Demeters used at Bass Northwest today:
