fEARful™ Part Ten (10)

So, I think I can get the sound and volume I want out of a 1212/6/1 . I just needed to use a 12db high pass filter at between 80-100hz. Im thinking about trying Fdecks hp filter in my fx loop. I guess having a passive switchable filter built in the cab would work too but probably be expensive. I also found that a 6db low pass at 3.5khz sounded really good too. Someone should build a little unit like this to put in your fx loop and call it sealed cab in a box.

I couldn't get the same effect by just using the amps eq like several have suggested but the filters did exactly the job.

Those minidsp board units could be fashioned into a pedal-sized FX unit with a high/low pass you set with your laptop quite easily. Look it up. I'm thinking very seriously of buying one of them :)

I just pulled the trigger on a 3012LF. Hopefullt they honor their price. I was going to wait and get it when my cab is finished in a few weeks but with the jump in pricing I figured I would try today. I normally don't like to use my credit card for equiptment. But I think any interest or fees will be less than the increase in speaker cost if I wait. Should be able to fire up the 12/sub on top of my 12/6 soon. I can't wait!!!!!!!

The US is the leading exporter of chicken feet to China. Write your congressman and urge that no more chicken feet go to China until they play nice in the world economy.

I got the price off their wholesale page, after hours, but don't see the need to ask them for an explanation. It's obvious to me.

Anyone who has been following the price of neodymium the past week or two knows it's going through the roof. The price is changing daily, sometimes by double-digit percentages. For a coarse overview of the price of Neodymium over the past year, see the graphs on the page that singlemalt linked to.

For anyone who has a 1212/6/1 cab or a 12/6 plus sub, if you went with greenboy's cheap but good crossover, does it sound overly bright or just right? I see that it has no padding which would put it at around 4db higher than the pair of 3012lf's. I will probably go with the exact crossover plus Duke's tweet crossover but wanted some opinions.

hmm ordered a 3015lf friday but it didnt ship same day as they said so im wondering if im gonna get screwed with the price hikes. they did charge my card though just no tracking. cause my place raised the retial prices but didnt on wholesale

Okay so I need some clarification here. According to the official [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], the "ASD1001 [is] in normal polarity" (see notes in images):

However, this contradicts the statement in the discussion just below that image that says "the correct polarity is the same polarity is the midrange driver; in other words where the polarity of the midrange is reversed relative to the woofer, the polarity of the ASD-1001 should also be reversed relative to the woofer".

It would seem that based on Duke's recent post, the image is correct when using an Alpha6A and the discussion text is correct when using an 18Sound.

I'm using the Alpha6A so do I wire the ASD1001 normal or reverse? Although, it's easy enough to simply swap the wires at the driver later if necessary.

2nd gig review of 15/6...

Had my second gig with my fEARful 15/6 and it continues to impress. We were really cranked through the PA and during soundcheck one of the guitarists was out front with his wireless and said my bass should've been turned up a bit more, only to find out I wasn't even coming through the PA at that time. :D

For reference, our PA subs are two JBL SRX728's driven by two QSC RMX4050HD power amps. We've been really rocking clubs lately and the 15/6 gives me such tremendous stage presence that I always hear every single note, no matter how loud we are or where I stand.

The low B string on my Yamaha is so solid and tight that I'm finding ways to utilize it more for stronger impact. The drummer and I are in such sync with each other because he can not only hear every note I play with so much more clarity, he can also feel it. The low end is such a force now. No mud, no boominess.

There is so much depth, clarity, feel and subtlety to every note I play that the sound from my fEARful is actually inspiring. To not have to sacrifice lows (as in cutting the lows and boosting mids to cut through) just to be heard is so damn revealing that it leaves me wondering how I've played for 30 years without hearing this amount of bass content.

Honestly, despite the cost of neos going up, having played through my fEARful live a couple of times now, I still think it is well worth the cost. Really...a single 49 lb., 15/6 loaded cab puts out this kind of volume and tone? I NEVER would have believed it were possible prior to really experiencing it firsthand.

It's THAT good.

I'm usually not the kind to just gush over every new piece of gear I get, despite the temptation of buyer's boastful pride, but my Carvin BX1200 and this fEARful have just put me over the top.

I've been playing live for over 30 years. I've had loud rigs before. I've had rigs with great tone. But I've never had a cab like this that literally will give me any tone I want to configure it for and have this kind of output, especially in the low end without causing the stage sound to end up as one big drone. The low end is CLEAR and DISTINCT. I've been able to boost sub 100Hz content and remove that typical 100Hz-200Hz hump that can cause stage problems and even at high volume the cab still pumps out strong low end CLEANLY.

Most cabs that have that strong hump in the lo-mids (too small a box syndrome that exaggerate it for a kind of "false" volume output) just cannot compete with the fEARful's tonal output without farting out. This cab just slams without even the slightest hint of being pushed too hard.

Ad copy writer? Man, the fEARful writes it's own glowing review just by using it. Guys who own them and say it's hard to wipe the smile off your face after playing through one are telling the truth.

I can only imagine what a 1515/66 must be like.
