With all do respect good sir, I don't know why you are posting an LDS 15/6 cab in a fEarful megathread. I think it can lead to confusion where people new to these cabs think they are the same when they are not. The only thing that is the same is that the LDS and fEarful use the same drivers... everything else is different. Its sort of like posting a epifani 212 in a Berg ae 212 dedicated thread. Sure they both have eminence 12s in them, but that's it. I have the exact same LDS 15/6 as you and while I agree its a great cab, its misleading for me to post it in a fEARful thread. I am not saying you have any deceitful intentions, I sincerely doubt it, but it is misleading. I hope you dont get P.O.d about this post... just sincerely expressing my honest opinion. Have a good one. :)

Hard to talk about the technical/acoustic design aspects without revisiting old wars, but if UkiahBass wants to post in the thread he's sure welcome by me. I try to think back before that all got going, and I think we all got along. Best of music to both of you guys!

Just finished my 12/6/1 (see above) and experimented with the tweeter level control. Until then, I'd played with my 15/6 with no tweeter.

I play with my fingers, old school, like a very bassy sound, think reggae and classic rock, and am not a tapper, popper, slapper, or flipper, but I am a bopper.:bassist:

Anyway, I discovered that the tweeter does make a positive difference. It gives me a little more definition and clarity, to go with the awesome bass these cabs produce. I was vacillating too, thinking about the extra $$ and extra weight of the tweeter and crossover, but I'm glad I did it.

Thanks, this is what I needed to hear. I too am a finger player, although I get a little percussive occasionally. Now all I have to do is find the funds to get a couple speakers and a tweet........

Edit:Anyone have a 3012LF for a decent price?

I'm just going to buy a new one from Leland. I think if you buy the whole thing in parts it's pretty affordable.

Thanks GB. I don't mean to stir the pot. Ukiah Bass seems like a nice guy and sure he has the best of intentions.

peace

Out of 3012lf's. And my backup source is out of stock. I have them on backorder with Eminence. No delivery dates promised.

If you want a 12XX kit w/o the driver email me. I don't normally do kits w/o drivers unless there's something like this going on.

Just picked up a GK 700RB-II today for my 12/6-12/sub. Should be plenty loud for my needs. Will give it a trail by fire at a outdoor gig tomorrow. Any other fEARful/GK RB series users have any opinons on the 4/5 string button. I play a fiver but it seems like with the botton pushed in the low end gets a bit much. The EQ is almost all around noon. I had the switch on my 400RB-IV but I didn't have the power to really push things.

I keep the button pushed in as my default setting. The only time I disengage it is when the room is causing problems or I'm using a cab that can't handle the extreme lows.

I finally had time to crank up the 700RB-II through my 12/6-12/sub. Definately rocks. I've found that I prefer the sound I get with my Sansamp BDDI in front for a little tube emulation. With the blend between 12 & 3 o'clock on close to the default fat tube setting it just gives it a little warmth. For some reason I prefer the presence control on the sansamp over the GK. I've only played around for about an hour but damn if it doesn't sound like thunder. I can't imagine some of you guys with the dual 15's and more power. You guys must play a lot bigger places than me. Thanks again to the GB....these cabs rock!

hey folks -

I have a question about the 12/6 powered by low-wattage amps. I apologize if this is a common question, I've read a fair amount of the mega-threads, but certainly not all.

I have a little 15w all tube guitar amp (Egnater Tweaker) and my bass sounds beautiful through it (with the matching 1x12 Celestion cab), but I don't dare turn it up for fear of killing the speaker.

I'm thinking I'll probably build the 12/6 sometime this year anyway (for use with my Ampeg B500DR) but it's gonna be a while before I can build it and in the mean time I'm just wondering if 15 watts would actually be able to drive the 12/6 at all.

Anyone ever run it with a really low-power head? Can you get any thump out of it at all?

There is no such thing as too small of an amp. (caveat - 1/4 watt might be too small :) )

But seriously, low watt amps just mean the maximum volume you can achieve is less. That is it.

Some may try to tell you that if your amp is underpowered you can blow your speakers, but that's based on some faulty assumptions. If you drive your amp to the max (max gain, max volume) then it will clip and theoretically it can send 2-3 times its wattage in mid-high frequency to the speaker. With your 12/6, you will have absolutely no worries of that, and you are safe to drive your amp to the max. Well, safe for the 12/6 anyway :)

You'll be sufficiently pleased by the 12/6.

Having said that, keep in mind that 15 watts won't be able to keep up with a band, but it's suitable for solo or practice work. Even a quiet drummer would make your 15w difficult to be heard.

I've wrote about this before but here it is again...EDIT -- OPPS, its a 10W not 15W...I'm impressed even more with the 12/6.

I run my 12/6 alpha (built per plans) with a cheap 10W practice amp. I can vibrate the walls in my home. Its plenty for practice or coffee house gigs.

The 12/6 gets loud with little input.

Sansamp Bass DI > GK 700RB-II > 12/6-12/sub = Victory! This set-up totally kicked ass at my outdoor show today. Brought the 12/sub home afterward and will play the club tonight with just the 12/6. GB you & your design rock!!!!!!!!!!

So is there anyone building these reading this. ? would really like to order one from some one!

There are quite a few authorized builders on the fEARful website...

As far as using low power with a fearful - it'll work.

My current recording setup is a blueprinted Fender Champ ran wide open into a fearful 12/6 mic'd with an EV RE-20. Very full, breaks up just bit at MF, gets almost hairy at FF. Really fun!

I'd need a bit more than the Champ to play a jazz gig, but not all that much. 15 to 20 Watts would be plenty. The Champ sounds incredibly good through the fearful. I've been tempted to use it live with the amp off stage, and me in the mons. It is that good.

Cool. Further confirmation. Thanks!

BTW - I grew up in Madison. Back when Club de Wash and O'Cayz were still standing. I wonder if you and I know each other? I played in a band called Peepshow back around 91-94.

I'm old.

Grew up around Port Washington. Played the Stone Hearth and the rest of those venues when we came out here from the Milwaukee scene in the 70's. I spent much of my youth playing the beer halls north of Milwaukee. Really had a ball, that was a fun circuit.

By the time the 90's hit, I was hanging at John Hawk's in Milwaukee soaking up the jazz. Miss that scene.

I've been working with singer / songwriters and jazz players for years. I've been blessed to get to hang with such great people.
