Fearful Part 14: one better than 13!

Why does this design respond to eq so much better than others? I am just curious.

the results are impressive. i'm not nerdy enough to go into the science, but the general reason is noted by smeet already. the flat transparency allows changes to show through vs cabs with bumps and dips and holes in the response range. my eq knobs have new life, and my tone knobs do much more work now. it is a little silly how much better they are than with my PH115.

Beyond the flat response, there's another important thing...the 3015LF and the 18-sound mid are very very clean sounding. They don't have the breakup that other speakers do, and that means greater clarity (along with a crossed-over design which does the same).

Just for giggles, does anyone ever run a power amp mated with a Sansamp BassDI pedal? Not a full head with the DI into the power amp section, but just a power amp. I'm assuming it would be the same as a rack mount pre&power setup. Just seems like an interesting way to go minimal and modular with these cabs.

I did this a lot. It won't drive my amp (Carvin HD1500) as well as my rack preamps but it works and does sound pretty damn good. I had Mike Putnam add a mid control on my BDDI so it takes awy any mid scoop. I've also done this with my Oxford pedal as well.:bassist:

Alright, n00b question here: I have seen fEARful stuff all around, but after some looking, I still have NO idea what it is. Is it a brand of stuff? certian configurations? (Sorry, not trying to hijack the thread; just seemed like a logical place to ask).

It is essentially a cab product line. Greenboy designed them and put the plans on the web for free so DIY people could build them. As momentum has gained, there have evolved things like "authorized builders" and various "kit" packs you can buy to construct one yourself. They're based around specific 12 and 15 drivers, with a crossover and a 6" mid-driver, with optional tweeter configuration. The 12 or 15 with a 6 mid-driver give flat response over a full enough range for bass guitar. Adding the tweeter makes them suitable for keys and PA usage. They tend to be lighter, more efficient, and capable of taking more wattage than the average bass cab.

fEARfuls are the bass cab equivalent to walking into a club and seeing the woman of your dreams. The only problem is that she likes really expensive drinks, but you got some unwanted money and that is fine. You decide to spend your money on these fancy drinks of high value and you take her home. Once you get down to business, she does everything you want, better than you ever imagined, makes feel like you never even knew what sex was before that moment...... and she falls in love with you for what you've done to her. Then you realize that nothing is more important in the world than love and every time you see her, you just want nothing more than to block out the world and bang her all night, or throw her up on stage and show the world what this chick can do.

WOW i love it....That has to be one of the bast ways i have ever herd fEARful explained!! Greenboy should use this on his page..lol :p This is truly Sig worth.....if it wasnt soo damn long..lol:bawl:

BTW shouldnt it be that you fall in love with HER for all SHE Has Done to YOU???..lol :p cause there aint anything you can do to her that she cant handle ;)

Nope, I meant that. Some cabs don't like what you give them and poop the bed. But this sexy lady just straddles your speakon and dares you to give it more. It loves whatever it is you have to give, and it makes the most out of it.
