Again, I guess my question is that for my needs, and with my present head, would I do as well (or close to) with a 12/6 as compared to getting a pair of decent 12s (I was thinking something like the Aguilar GS112)? I like projects, and the price seems great. If I could walk in with one cab and do the job, I would be happy, and the idea of making the cab look fantastic is a good one.

A single 12/6 at 300w at 8 ohms will not be as loud as a pair of gs112s with 500w at 4 ohms. With two 112s you have more speaker surface area which will definitely increase the volume. 500w doesnt hurt either. That said, IMO the 12/6 will sound more pleasing to the ears.

A 12/6 will definitely work for you but only if you increase your wattage IMO / IME.

One idea you could do is buy a peavey IPR power amp and use your bx500 as a preamp. It will work great with a 12/6 and only cost about $250 to $300. Plus the IPRs are super light... less than 8LBS.

So my opinion is either:

1. build two fearfuls and use your bx500
2. build one fearful and replace your amp with something more powerful
3. go in a completely different direction.

I think you will be fine with the BX500 and a dual 12 fEARful rig. Commingled from my personal experience running a PF500 and a pair of 12/6/1's.

Yeah they can handle more power, but they will be way less compressed than a traditional 212. This will feel "bigger" as your cab won't be hitting it's limits.

Hi TB, I'm planing to build a 15/6 with kappalite 3015LF, but it's hard to get a proper 6" midrange in my country. Only thing I have currently available is Eminence Alpha 6A, and it's on sale, pretty cheap.

Is it a good match for 3015LF, or should I look further? if not, please suggest me some speaker, preferably Eminence. there is Alpha 6C and Alphalite 6A also available, but I can order other ones too.

The Alpha will not keep up with the 3015LF. It is a good pairing with the 3012LF though. You could look in to building two 12/6's with mirrored baffles.

Per a different mid driver with the 15/6: That would involve a redesign of the cross over.

That is all I would go with, unless you are looking to do a cross over redesign.

You could build two 12/6's for more power. Like this.

Yep, I found it on Ebay uk, it's priced at $210 with shipping. I may go with two 12/6, as I have 3012LF available much cheaper than 3015LF, and can get two Alpha 6A's at almost half a price of one 6ND410. hmmm

Honestly I had a 15/6, and sold it for a pair of 12/6's. Just felt bigger to me.

Two 12/6 cabs will also give you 4 ohm power from a solid state head, which helps.

Based on my 15/6 experience, I'd go 12/6 pair for modular portability unless I needed output from a pair of 15/6 cabs.

The 6NM410 was dropped and replaced with the 6ND410 several years ago.
18 Sound is located in Italy, so should be available anywhere in Europe.

thanks guys, you helped me a lot. I think I will go with two 12/6 if I get a deal on 3012LF's, tho it seem I found local dealer of 18sound, with 6ND410 excepted soon to be available on stock.

My band has a c***py EV eliminator PA with that muddy subs ruining my great bass tone, so I'll be lucky with extra power to play without PA support on smaller indoor gigs

The 6NM410 was dropped and replaced with the 6ND410 several years ago.

I think that was only in the US (something to do with Clair Brothers IIRC). I've run measurements on a few drivers of each type. They look the same and measure the same within normal production tolerances. As far as I can tell, the only significant difference is the location of the connection lugs.

Finally, after having this idea for over 1 year, I got my own 12/6/1. Only had a few minutes of play time since I received it, but I think it's going to be a keeper. It's not the prettiest cab by far, but I love how light it is and how "transparent" it sounds.

Now I have a super compact rig which can cover most of my needs (we only play relatively small gigs) and which I can use as a practise amp at home...

There are plenty of places you can get the flat-packs of ready cut plywood, flat-packs are no good without the plans so they are usually there on the same page.
Just google them
