Fedex ground, do they have complete retards as drivers?

I have heard horror stories of basses being shipped by them but, thought maybe they were isolated incidents...

Im on the phone with my mother at the location asking her if fedex showed up, at the same time an exception was put into the fedex system as "customer not available."

Not to mention the big blue reflective sign with my house number.

I call fedex 5 minutes after the exception is posted and they tell me basically, "tuff titties"

If it were ups they would contact the driver and turn his ass around to get the package delivered.. ARGGGHHH.

So now i tomorrow (saturday) i cannot go out or get anything done becuase i have to sit around and wait for this jackass, becuase they will give no timeframe,

Yeah, I despise FedEx.

They once told me that they couldn't deliver a package because my address didn't exist. They had the correct address, they just claimed the large office building wasn't there. It turns out they were attempting delivery to the CITY that had the same name as my STREET.

Hawaii FedEx must be different because of the small community that the drivers work in. It is an island afterall.

They often deliver my guitar or bass in a small passenger van as a seperate delivery. The local office is much better to deal with than their main office.

Well, I think that you have people who don't really care working at each Shipping place. I have had a very very bad experience with DHL. UPS left a $3500 guitar on a snow bank without getting a signature that was required and it got wet and warped. They did not pay the claim to the company I worked for.
An acoustic guitar came from Fedex with Forklift holes in the side and they didn't care.

FedEx comes to my house between 9am and 9:30PM... and they can never tell me when it might be.

UPS tracking often tells me the package in still at the shipping location the day it is delivered.

I have had many more good experiences than bad ones though.

I deal with both UPS and FedEx on a regular bassis.

The original FedEx over night company is excellent. I trust them far more than UPS RED/Over Night. More efficient and better equipped. They have been doing this longer (at the immense volume every day) than anyone else. The FedEx system is quicker to track packaging than UPS and reacts quicker to rerouting and delivery mistakes than UPS does. I have had too many UPS Red packages not make it in 24 hours so I don't use them for that.

For regular ground shipping or 3 day (UPS orange) UPS is far better than FedEx Ground. They have been doing this for so long they just have the infastructure and know how to route packaging better. The nice thing about UPS is that they have centers everywhere and if you are shipping to a center within 150 miles of you it will get their next day anyway. FedEx ground is made up of frieght/trucking companies that they either bought or contract out to. They are never of the same caliber as an Actual FedEx employee and are not subjected to the same levels of professional conduct that FedEx expects out of their own employees. An actual FedEx driver would not have left my Avatar cabinet on my front porch or the Fender Teecaster Deluxe that I ordered on line with out a signature. I found my Tele leaning against my front door with a big Fender logo facing the street on the shipping box. It had been there all day. I'm lucky I have nice neighbors but not everyone who comes into my neighborhood lives here.

If I'm not in a big hurry it goes UPS

If it has to get there overnight I use FedEx.

Don't get me started on DHL. Avatar uses them exclusively for shipping. That is the only negative thing I can say about Avatar Speakers.

Not true here!

I was actually able to meet up with the FedEx driver a few miles from my house after talking to the distribution city over the phone. He waited for me, too!

I tried doing that with UPS... the best they'll do is arrange for me to go to their distribution facility (which isn't close by) and pick it up late at night. Two of the times that I opted to do this were disastrous; they left the packages on the trucks, never taking them down to the office where I could pick it up.

Around here, UPS NEVER delivers within the timeframe they specify; meanwhile, FedEx always shows up at the same time.

With both companies, it's all about who's running the local distribution facility, IME. I know other people in other areas have much better results with UPS and/or FedEx.

With FedEx, the local driver(s) that come to my place are ALWAYS here between 1-1:30 PM, like clockwork. They also deliver on Saturdays, for no extra charge. The last few basses that I have shipped, and two of them that have been shipped to me recently (that I requested be sent FedEx), have actually shown up a day earlier than the scheduled delivery date in most cases. Plus, FedEx, on average, is about $20 or better cheaper than UPS is to ship a bass, with insurance.

I'm sure it has everything to do with the local facility, but I have go give mine a huge thumbs up for their service around here.

+1

I think you're right about the local facilities having a big part of how good the service is. Both FedEx and UPS are pretty reliable and easy to deal with at the local level.

IME I ONLY use Fedex. Few years back, DHL left a 2000$ 440 racing motor out in the rain and snow and didn't even leave a note. I had to completely refurb the motor becuase there was rust on it becuase I found it 4 days later. Called DHL to log a complaint, they pretty much told me to f off.

UPS left an axle at the wrong address. The person who had the package delivered to them called me and said they had my product. Called UPS to log complaint, and they told me that it was dropped of at my house.

To make it worse, BOTH these packages req'd a SIGNATURE!

So far, I've had THE BEST experience with fedex. Good CS, great drivers. Only the best.

I've shipped a lot of things professionally, and FedEx has been MANY, MANY times more reliable than UPS or DHL. Stuff happens though, especially if the driver in your area is a loser waiting to be replaced. But I think FedEx as a whole kills UPS or DHL any day of the week, whether it's ground, air, whatever.

My thoughts exactly. I've used them all numerous times and FedEx always treats me right.

Never had a problem with FedEx, any version. Their ground service has been totally reliable and less expensive than UPS.

One bad experience may be frustrating but doesn't prove that a service is inadequate.

USPS is decent, the problem is that things aren't easy to track. I once had them drop $1000 worth of videotape into a black hole for six months - then one day it appeared in a dusty box. I generally ship only things that aren't time-sensitive USPS.

UPS? Never had a problem with them, either. Pack well, pay for service, track the shipment.

With ANY service, you can have a problem. Chances are you won't.

I have an account with Fedex and prepare all my shipments online (always add insurance). I do my own packing and labeling and drop 'em off at the depot. I have not had a single issue as yet with Fedex/Fedex Ground/Fedex Home! None with UPS either! I guess it depends on the characters of the delivery personal. Many seem unmotivated to complete deliveries.

I do the same---I have accounts with DHL, UPS, and FedEx. The ONLY thing I use DHL for is shipping large stuff, like cabinets. FedEx gets my business for about everything else, though.
