FedEx - is it just me...

My recent FedEx story:
I order six Hipshot ultralite tuners.

The day that they were delivered,I get a photo.
"Your package has been delivered"
Untitled.jpeg

Except that that isn't my door step!!

So it's two hours until I get home.
And I'm thinking of the B*** ***T that I will have to go through to get my tuners to me.
$318.00 worth of tuners is in some one else's hands!

When I do get home,I see that my package has been delivered to MY address.
They sent me the wrong "proof of delivery" photo!

The actual problem in this story is NYC, not FedEx. I'm a delivery driver for a regional carrier down south (not FedEx or UPS). The most difficult packages to tender are in the financial district. It's three dimensional chess. I go north three blocks, west two blocks. Then I check in with the loading dock master. Wait for the freight elevator. Get to the 22nd floor. Get a signature. Rinse and repeat.
My house is a lovely boring suburban HOA lake community home. The UPS truck makes a certain noise when coming down the block. Not a gated community. My boring suburban life is a delivery drivers wet dream. Drive in, park in the street, some crazed middle aged man comes out (me) yelling "BOSS! ZE BASS! ZE BASS!". Signed sealed delivered, I'm yours.
Cities are over. Join the 21st century. Wear plaid.

Yeah, nothing like seeing that photo of your box on someone else's porch :woot:
That’s happened to me a few times. Folks are very surprised when a strange and angry bass player knocks on their door looking for their package. Last time for me it was an Indian family and I think I scared them. But I got my package.

And you can totally forget about getting your package delivered right side up, regardless of how it is marked. I’ve had many basses delivered upside down in heavily damaged boxes. It’s a total crapshoot. Pack well.

…by the way, just had a Fed Ex delivery Tuesday, after the exact same sequence of excessive, incorrect emails.
-Delivery date provided
-then a day or so later, a new date, much earlier
-then a “will be delivered tomorrow” email
-then that day, a “will be delivered the next day” email

I’m expecting something tomorrow but it’s not gonna be here- it’s over 200 miles away and I’ve been through this several times. It’s got three more handling sites before it hits my local depot. They’re still saying it’s gonna be here tomorrow between 3:00- 7:00, and it requires a signature. It’ll arrive Saturday if I’m lucky. What’s funny is- the last three times I went through this, my tracking link never wavered in the delivery times, even AFTER the date had passed. Truly a chicken s*** operation with zero accountability.

I've had all these things happen to me at one time or another, but here's one that really takes the cake. I was waiting for a Fedex delivery. It said its " out for delivery", everyday, for several days. No package. Then nothing but, " delayed, no certain delivery date at this time." I finally got through to a customer service supervisor, who guaranteed me that she would find out where it was. Long story short, the driver(s) claimed they " couldn't find my house !" This, after getting Fedex deliveries for years. The supervisor actually had to email the driver a map, highlighted in yellow as how to get to my house ! Wow !

yep. Quick status that it’s at the district station in town then days with no updates. Shows up several days later and no tracking updates.
why use a tracking software that just randomly guesses?

at least USPS generally tells me nothing

UPS usually tracks to a time and hits that time often.

I ordered a cab from SW the other week, delivered by FedEx, and it arrived damaged. The box looked like it had been through hell and back. SW had it picked up and I ordered a different cab. It just got delivered and there was a big hole punched through the side of the box, it went through the plastic, and tore a hole through the front grill. Now this one is going back. 2 in a row, I think I'm done. :rage:

A year or two ago I was talking with my sales engineer (what a weird term), and I mentioned my preference for UPS and some trouble I had with FedEx. He said he'd make a note in my file. So apparently they can make notes like that in your file. I think they'd honor your preference for UPS (assuming that's your preference), especially since they just ate the shipping cost with FedEx two times.

I already sent my sales engineer an email about the problem and said I will talk to them tomorrow after I'm up and get my day going. I will definitely specify UPS only, no FedEx. I have zero confidence that I can get a package delivered by FedEx undamaged. They're already eating the shipping to me and returning from me, for a total of 4 times now, then a 5th time to send a 3rd cab to me.

In an effort to help Fed Ex find my place I have delivery instructions in their system that say: "dead end road third driveway on left ORANGE ROAD CONE IN DRIVEWAY place package at second road cone at front door" . They don't allow punctuation. I have two very bright, very large collapsable roads cones I use for this purpose.

Ups does not have a way to provide delivery notes.

I would not have a valuable bass shipped unless it was in a TSA Certified flight case, and I would not have it delivered to my house, but to a local Fed Ex, or UPS depot for me to go and pick up. I would open the package in front of an employee of the carrier so as to more easily document any carrier related problem.
