FedEx - is it just me...

Quick rant.

Every single time FedEx gives me a delivery date, the next day they UPDATE it with a date that's 2 days earlier, and then I get no updates...

...and it arrives 2 days late. On the original date they sent.

Do they do that just to be annoying? Is it just in NYC? I wouldn't mind if my wife wasn't home waiting because she has to sign for it.

My experience is similar in NYC. Delivery dates and times seem to change randomly. Sometimes it says it's delivered and doesn't show up until the next day. Sometimes it says it's coming the next day and it's sitting downstairs or out in front of the building. Sometimes i need to sign for things that don't need a signature, and other times signature required items are left there unsigned for. No idea. And it's UPS too. Any courier, really.

I really don't trust any delivery to my place (Astoria/LIC area, not too far from a subway stop). Amazon will usually refund any "delivered" items that aren't there, but if it's important and expensive, i'm hesitant to send anything to my place. Got a new bass being delivered to somewhere else who gets deliveries often and reliably and will pick it up from there. I'm also considering just having things sent to the nearby FedEx or UPS storefront, except they're just far enough of a walk that carrying heavy things will be obnoxious.

This is my FedEx story.

Ordered a bass on reverb, seller ships it immediately through FedEx. They have it in the truck to deliver it 3 days later. I’m at home when the truck pulls up. “Delivery attempt made, will come back tomorrow”. They don’t come back. After 2 weeks of phone calls and 3 separate customer service tickets made, I’m told which facility in my town it’s at. Call the manager on duty, they do a dock walk to confirm where it’s at. I drive to the facility and walk in with employees on shift change. Find said manager and get my bass.

I was always a UPS guy, but thought it was just luck of the draw. I'm starting to think they really ARE the only way to go. I never had any issues with UPS.

They’re batting 1.000 here. EVERY single delivery. I hang @ the crib with my thumbs up my keester, a day wasted, and there’s NO ONE you can call. Their customer support is garbage. Their CEO is a moron- they liquidated their fleet at the start of the pandemic thinking the world was gonna stop and even Amazon won’t use them. Awful company, awful to work for, looking forward to their demise.

USPS has a distribution center in my town. It's about the same distance from my place as the post office. When I get tracking from USPS, sometimes a package will hit the distribution center at 4 AM , and then the post office a couple hours later, and I get it that day. But sometimes, it gets to the distraction center at 2 AM, and takes a dozen hours to get to the post office, and it gets to me....a day later. A package can go all the way across the country in a day, and the last 4 miles takes another day.

And then there was my package that went from California to Guam on the way to me (I live in the midwest). Yeah, that one was a few days late.

I ordered a couple Ethernet switches at work once, and half an hour later, I got a notice from the mail room that my switches had arrived. There they were, the right model, 2 of them, my name, the right supplier - how did they do that?

I was scratching my head trying to figure out how they did that, until my boss told me he'd ordered a couple switches (same exact type I had) a couple days prior, and as he was going to be out of the office, he put my name on the order to deliver them to.

I alway has stuff delivered to my place of employment, or if purchases at GC, delivered to the store.

In answer to your question, happens out here in the corn fields of Illinois too, and yes, it’s annoying.

It really does depend on the location. Each carrier has more than a few notoriously bad shipping facilities. I once lost a bass mid-shipment at a facility south of Atlanta (maybe Conway?) and when I called FedEx they were like, oh yeah, that facility is terrible.
