FedEX

Thursday
8:00PM Hey... this is FedEX... we're going to deliver your package at 10am.
Friday
10:00AM Okay... make that noon...
1:30PM Ummm... maybe 3pm
5:00PM Definitely... 7pm... yes... 7pm
8:00PM What package?
9:00PM. Oh... that package? Monday.... 10am... for real this time...

Lately this is also UPS, USPS, pretty much any delivery service. Things get here, but exactly when is often flexible.

FedEx did that to me for a whole week recently (new bass). To be fair, they only said they were going to deliver it on three different days. Then they decided not to even pretend for another week. I had to get the seller to change the delivery to a FedEx location — their system wouldn't let me do that. A few days later they managed to get it there. At least they didn't destroy it.

An earlier FedEx shipment sat in Chicago for over a week, and also required seller intervention. Meanwhile, UPS and USPS were arriving only a day or two late.

That’s nothin. Strap yourselves in people…

I ordered a product from a company in Utah on 11/2. I live in California. It arrived in California at a Fedex hub less that 5 hours away the very next day. In transit to my city on the 4th. Ok I figure it’ll be here Friday the 5th or more likely the 8th a Monday. Boy was I mistaken…

On 11/9 is was scanned in Northampton Pennsylvania. Then BREINIGSVILLE on the 10th. Then Wheeling West Virginia on the 11th. Then in Missouri on the 12th. Then 2 different cities in Kansas on the 13th, and another on the 15th and scanned in Texas.

Now on the 16th, Arizona AND back in California. Then on the 17th… low and behold, it makes it way BACK to the fedex hub that’s less than 5 hours away. Sweet. I should get it Friday the 19th. It makes it’s way to my city on the 19th…

sigh. Maybe Monday the 22nd? I’m not holding my breath.

I had my guitar tech give one of my basses a minor neck adjustment the other day. Don't ask how he knows, but in passing, he explained that the company had instituted a major system upgrade some time ago. Needless to say, rollout is NOT going as smoothly as designed, expected, or desired.

They are entering "season" and it ain't going to get better. I would encourage you to neither shop nor receive bases or other valuable items over the holidays, or to at least to pick them up at the depot or have them delivered to your place of business.

System is majorly upgeschtupped.

wise words here. this is the very worst time of year to be shipping an item, esp. for infrequent customers.

Of the 3 bigger delivery carriers I prefer FedEx by no small margin. We signed up for tracking texts some while ago, and they haven’t been late, delivered to wrong address, etc since. They ALWAYS follow delivery directions as well, hiding things by a side door instead of broadcasting packages delivered to front.

As of late, USPS may or may not deliver at all.

We get threads here weekly, hating USPS, UPS, or FedEx, with some personal story.

Fact is, the number of packages being delivered has increased tremendously over the past few years. Add in the difficulties from COVID. If there were a way to do it better, they would.

My brother drives for UPS. He works 6 days a week usually 10-12 hours a day. He deals with attack dogs, people with road rage, and a truck with no air conditioning. Yes he gets paid well, but it's a hard job.

Cut delivery drivers some slack!!!

I went out to check for mail yesterday, and, lo and behold, a package I was expecting was on the driveway, in front of my garage.

It's 11 more steps to the porch.

It says USPS on the package (22 digit number), so I call local Post Office prepared to give them my $.02 and some change.

After I give him the details and the number, the clerk tells me it's not in their system... ? He explains, lately FedEx is no longer handing off to the USPS (for how long is anyone's guess)... I guess FedEx wants to show USPS they can handle 'the last mile'.

If they can't handle 11 more steps, I doubt the last mile is going to be a cakewalk for them.

Even better... when calling FedEx's customer service, how many were successful speaking to a real live person... in Guatemala?
