You see, I kinda disagree - but I get what you're saying.

I think , in this instance, Gibson is the responsible party. They are the importer turning around a product for us to buy. In your analogy, it seems to me that the end-user (guitarist) is the "immigrant sitting at home" and Gibson is the "company that hired them". Gibson is the entity bound by U.S. importation law, not the off-shore lumber wholesaler.

Guess it could be looked at from different angles. I was looking at Gibson as being the end user of the raw material. I get what you say though.

I don't agree with the DOJ doing this, But the last two paragraphs in the article have a good point....

They perhaps meant the comparison regarding working conditions, or "enslavement" of a people required to do the dirty work. Regardless, I agree that it is most likely a poor analogy to make.

Isn't it the government that raided Gibson?? All WSJ did was report the story. Cite inaccuracies in the story or slant that warrant critizng the WSJ or Ruppert Murdock who doesn't have a damn thing to do with any of this.
