I was more pointing out that there have been several political posts in this thread which is supposedly a no-no on TB and no one seems to have a problem with those but then singled out an opposing view and called it **. And then apparently it's okay to say i was being ignorant when I posted that.
I said this:
"Having a successful manufacturing company in the US is not in the plans of our government."
This could be interpreted as a political statement, but it's more of a fact if you look at all the regulations and thuggery going on right now against business. They are looking at Gibson the same way they did Boeing, take down the big dog and the rest will follow. This is not a political opinion, it is political fact!! Google it!!
I smell a rat. Something's just not right about this. Have a hard time thinking Gibson would knowingly break these laws.
Gibson was targeted because it is a well-known name even to non-musical people. It's all about the HEADLINES and nothing about the substance. If they were interested in justice, they would be raiding the "certified" supplier, but then nobody would know because there isn't a big name in the headline.

Gibson did make a statement. Perhaps the most relevant portion is this:

The wood the Government seized on August 24 is from a Forest Stewardship Council certified supplier and is FSC Controlled, meaning that the wood complies with the standards of the Forest Stewardship Council, which is an industry-recognized and independent, not-for-profit organization established to promote responsible management of the worlds forests. FSC Controlled Wood standards require, among other things, that the wood not be illegally harvested and not be harvested in violation of traditional and civil rights. Look folks, first of all, WSJ is owned by the Rupert Murdoch bunch; and so, is more prone towards infotainment vs information nowadays. I wouldn't get all excited about this article, at least in terms of its representation of "facts."
OTOH, and I pray this is not taken as "political," we do have a situation in this country where the "rule of law" is in some serious doubt. Witness several recent cases where various high level Federal and State courts have reseated judicial members with various political leanings, and then "reconsidered" (overturned) previous decisions by the same body. These are much more serious transgressions into our system of laws, and pretty much opens the doors to people with money buying whatever decision they want.
Going back to this thing with protected woods; I suppose it could be possible to attack the musicians, but this would nearly shut down the orchestral touring schedules. By the point this happens, we will have much bigger problems to deal with.
Anyhow, get ready to see a lot of things that don't make sense happening. Loss of the rule of law is the first step towards anarchy. Nothing really peaceful to stop that train once it starts rolling downhill. We should all pray for peaceful resolution and hope for survival.

The Fish and Wildlife Service isn't really the first line for the "war" on drugs (which, itself, is incredibly wasteful) or for hunting fugitives and international terrorists...

Gibson should just be heavily fined. What are they going to do with all that confiscated wood? Plant it? I dont think its the persons job to know exactly where each part of the instrument came from. An old corvette wouldnt have a chance of being produced nowadays because of safety and emissions standards, but does that mean all old corvettes should be confiscated?

The last paragraph, which is an off-topic editorial comment that has little to do with the story, is inaccurate. The article's author should have taken the time to look up who wrote the new light bulb standards, and who signed them into law.
Why? They already issued a statement (quoted earlier in this thread) that their wood was obtained legally.

It is your opinion, and it's what started the "political BS" co-thread going on in here. Just because Google indexed a page that agrees with you doesn't make something a fact. That it's completely wrong is beside the point, and also off topic for this thread.
