Regarding volume - as far as I was concerned it was no problem. I wanted to check out some of the rigs also and there's only so much of a feel for a rig you can get with low volume. I even contributed a few times to the problem.:o I sing when I play and unless the amp is pretty loud you will hear too much of my voice, and believe me you don't want that. :):atoz:

Oh! Whoever mentioned bringing a drum machine - capital idea! A few of those around the room would go a long way toward making a jam-friendly situation.

The volume was a major concern for me. It started out at "11" from the very beginning making it really hard to hear any of the basses or cabinets. After a few minutes everything was blending together into a Babel like sea of noise.

I did have to get out for a bit to get some quiet time to clear my head .....and ok! ok!...I'll admit it to smoke a cigar from time to time:D.

I do not know what we could do to fix this dilemma. It kind of reminded of a NAMM show on a bad day in one of the smaller exhibit halls.

Otherwise it was well organized. It was a pleasure to meet everyone. The chow was great and the fellowship was even better.:bassist:

there was actually a shortage:( (and I got a real good price on the room and food) no big deal though. oh well, next year it'll have to be a couple of dollars more

the event was awesome, it wasnt too much trouble to get to and the venue was pretty nice. next time i think we should all turn down the volume a little bit because it was rather loud in there, but near the end jamming with 4-5 people was pretty fun, meeting all the people was great, but next time lets try to find a location more central to everyone because i'm sure there were some people out there who really wanted to go but it was out of range for them, so like an average of a 3 hour commute would even be okay with me, or even more depending on the location, (texas?) (mississippi?). the level of friendliness with everyone who showed up simply wowed me. and being around older more experienced bass players allowed me to listen and learn new rythms, licks, and chrodal progressions (thanks to ruben)

I enjoyed meeting as many as I did. Nice to put a face with the names. The volume was definitely a problem. I just stopped trying the basses as I couldn't hear them anyway. It was like being in GC with a bunch of teenagers. If I was driving I probably would have left by 3:30 due to the volume but it was good to step outside and hang with some the other TB'ers so I'm glad I got to hang and chat.

There were a lot of nice basses there but I really couldn't tell you what any of them really sounded like.

Thanks again mark, but not necessary. Next year I just gotta charge a bit more, gotta find the right balance.

Except for maybe another one of Nino's beauties. Seriously, I could have almost 2 Valenti's for the price of one Sadowsky. It's almost a no brainer to me. Kudos, again, to Nino. Did anyone else get to A/B a Sadowsky and a Valenti, back to back. Am I on crack here ?

no your not on crack, i came to the same conclusion. the sadowsky's were really nice lightweight fender clone, but id take a Valenti anyday over the sadowsky. im only wishing i got my order in before the GTG nino's wait time just got killed for the next two years after yesterday.:crying:

I personally felt the location was perfect. In reality there is no central location good for everyone. Like you said, a 3hr drive is probably the radius around the location for everyone not flying or making a multi-day vacation of it. NYC is a great destination for international guests such as lucky Laurent.

Nino is indeed doing a kick-ass job. I had to buy one on the spot! And, it will live in perfect harmony next to my Sadowsky Modern 24-5

+1 to this...I belive I told Nino this.

I would rather have a Valenti then Sadowsky any day.

(Just with a smaller string spacing then He it appears that He normally does like a 18 :hiding:)

Before I sound like a Sadowsky hater I'm not.
They are wonderful and the hollowed swamp ash makes they very light. I'm sure that adds to the general 'warmth' sound to a degree as well.

I have tried them before and tried 6 or 7 of them at the GTG.
I was waiting for the GTG for the final conviction in my mind and my original opinion has not changed.

On that note I have to thank the Roger and the folks for thier wonderful donations to the event.

Back to the topic.

Here are just a couple of ideas.

I think sound is always going to be a battle no matter what.
Its what we do.


- How about a designated table that is off to the side that has a 3-4 headphone ams dedicated for those who only want to hear the insturment itself. (Bring your own MP3 player if you with play along your own drum tracks or what ever if you want so you can hear it in a musicial setting).

- Some of the actual Raffles that are the actual headphone amps themselves. (If you decided to go that way please let me know becuse I might have something to offer from the business side of the house).

- Desigined amp times (so that we know there is no wall of whossshh at X time)

If possible

- Another side room with a drummer(s) again at desigined times for a little jamming.

Couldn;t agree more on the Sadowskys. Really can't dig their uber-smooth sound. Nino's #008 with Nordy's and my JO5 ( sky) with AERO 5's give that etherial grit that the too smooth Sad's dont. Stuck in the 60's and 70's am I. I did like the sound of the Nordy big singles Nino used in a few of the basses - passive they sound great, but output is slim.

Location was superb except for the lack of decent hotels right near by - a minor issue.

Agree with basswave, I wouldn't try and "legislate" a sound regulation, but ask eveyone to practice some "sound discipline" with a few 10 minute intervals for lettin' it rip. Between that courtesy and headphones, we should be good to go. Dont underestimate peer pressure in a setting like that - its like a gun to your head, er 50. We should also designate an "acoustic" time frame, like 10 of the hour to the hour. Donnow about y'all, but my first impression of a bass HAS to be acoustic. Impossible with 10 amps running. So to really check out some of these axes , it has to be quiet. I think with some time frames across the hour, open jam, acoustic, 30db jam, ( eg, 0-10 after the hour is acoustic, 10-50 after the hour is a Xdb quiote jam, and then 50-50 is the "open jam" ) we could really mitigate the noise factor.

Crusader - if you;re out $$ let us know and if we all chip in a fin or so, we'll cover it.

Excellent ideas. there are other rooms at the Plattduetsche, some smaller, some larger. we certainly could have utilized the smaller room at least for the headphone amps and acoustic. I should have asked that very day. the room was right next to ours, though not attached, but it would have been the perfect size.
