Double Bass FeLIX and BiX review

hey guys and gals in bass land! I finally posted a quick, not too technical review of these two fantastic pres. as always, headphones or real speakers will be best! Enjoy!

Great review, wow you definitely have the Oscar Pettiford vibe in your soloing, crystal clear, beautiful tone and exicution. It's amazing what a Full Circle sounds like into
the Grace. It just makes that pickup sound so much fuller and pleasing. The Remic Green blended with the Full Circle sounds about as good as it gets good as it gets. The Bix
really improves the sound of the Full Circle as well. I like your setup for the Felix on a music stand, as it's hard to get to it on the floor. Thats a good solution. The mic adapter
mount on the underside of the Felix just isn't ideal, because then the unit wont fit into the carying case. Kudos, great playing great demo.

Thank you! I had the pre's up so you could see them better. I actually have it mounted on a pedaltrain nano with a tuner so it all stays on one "thing" with a power supply mounted beneath. Makes set up quick.

I'm so glad that Grace downsized the concept so that it was more affordable
without compromising the sound quality.
The Bix has a 2 year warranty and uses a
9v power supply

I hear you. They were kind enough to send me that one for the review. I opted to keep it. I could see its potential as something i can take on an overseas tour or somesuch.

I have the AliX. Love it. That BiX sounds mighty good too..merely boosting the bass and treble really sounded like it manages the nasty mid range quite well. Maybe I should of bought the BiX. The impossible dream of MBOL is becoming real! A BiX, A Double 4, a pickup (and of course technique) gets ya real close to my ears. Great video and review, thank-you!

I probabably would have gotten the AliX, but I purchased my Felix about 4 months after their initial release. I usually don't blend two signal sources, the Ehrlund EAP works just fine by itself, into the Felix.
The Felix EQ is very clear and sensitive. Putting the HPF before the EQ was a genius move IHMO. I also really prefer a unit that uses AC rather than a wall wart. The 5 year warranty was the icing on the cake.

P.S. Grace's customer service is very good. I had an issue with the Op Amp out blowing. They repaired it and got it back to me in less than two weeks.

Yes, the AC power rather than wall wart was very appealing to me as well..though that BiX sure sounds good and the compact size would really work well on a pedal board with other effects on board, say for EUB use. I agree, putting the hpf in front of the eq on the Alix and FeliX is brilliant. Just a touch of the hpf in certain situations is really useful.

Wow. That is an impressive demo of your rig and signal chain(s), (and playing!)
I may need to look into this and reevaluate my own rig, (and playing!)
Also - are you the DEVIL?

Exactly. I decided up front that to a lot of people, players especially, the numbers and specs mean a lot less than the end product: the sound.
