I remember when Victor brought out a 17 year old Felix for Bass-day over twenty years ago and how some people were gunning for him, it was sad. Being the son of a legend must bring on more scrutiny than most of us can imagine. My favorite work of Felix is with Jeff Coffin and the band Venture with the great Mike Clarke.
I admire the heck out of Felix because he has stuck with the bass and appears to be at peace with being the son the world’s most iconic bassist while also being his own man.
Alright...Fodera makes some great basses but this is the first time I'd say the tone on one really blew me away. Of course, I'm sure Mr. Felix's hands have something to do with that too
Watching him play with Hipster Assassins was memorable. They had a guy holding it down on a four-string and Felix playing melodic leads on a six. He's a monster.
Mike Bendy is the the other bass player of that group, his brother John is the guitarist. Both fantastic players and very awesome people in general. Those two also have a group called Bendy Effect that is equally as awesome as Hipster Assassins (little more on the rock/blues side but still highly improvised).
There's footage out there. He used it on the Yellowjackets album "A Rise in the Road"...took a GORGEOUS solo with it. It makes me misty-eyed...Dad would be proud
