Yeah, I never considered them smooth jazz. They never conformed to that stupid Clear Channel format. Spyro Gyra either.

I hope the find a permanent/semi-permanent bassist as a member and give the group some time to jell on the road before they record the next album. I like when it there are a few bands in Jazz and not just one or two guys writing charts for the rest of the "band". I remember seeing George Howard a few times and thinking I wish he recorded with his road band because they just smoked his recorded output.

Alderson seems to have quite a memory for music. I find in this video that the grooves are not as seamless as with Haslip.

Dane seems to fit in much better, but it's still not the same. Miss Jimmy. Glad I got to see the band a few times with Jimmy, Will, Russ and Bob. The "classic" line-up in my mind.
