Felt Picks

I've used felt pics for over 30 years, when needed. Normally I play finger style with a floating thumb but if any particular song has extended fast tempo I'll cheat and use felt. Years ago the best out there were the larger green felt pics made by American Felt & Filter in Newburgh, NY. They didn't shed much as the fibers were longer but they did eventually become soft and self destruct. AFF supplied Steinway their piano felt for decades but they got away from supporting the music industry. I've scoured music retailers for these in my travels but few can be found. If you ever see any jump at the chance to buy them. It's kind of like finding a genuine tortoise shell pick for guitar & mandolin.

I play almost exclusively with my fingers but I do play with a pick on a rare song/occasion. I was at a music store once and saw some felt pics in a bowel at the front counter. I thought it would be fun to try them so I bought a couple. I thought they had a nice sound to them, not as much of a hash attack as a plastic one. I ended up losing them shortly there after and have never bothered to buy any again.
