Fender 1964 Jazz sparkle gold

First time for me seeing this bass. If it's legit, wow! Very cool piece, though the price makes no sense. You'd think the seller would price competitively. Didn't Bass Northwest sell a 64 Jazz in Olympic white w/matching headstock for around $15k?

For 50 large, you could get a CS Jazz, a fine rig, a PA and a van to get around in.

You'd get the audition too & still have dough left over.

Don't forget the tats!

in a way, he doesn't have to. although i think he is asking too much, oly white is common as compared to a sparkle gold. i'd be willing to bet that they made less of the sparkle gold ones than you could count on both hands, maybe even one hand.

When I get home from work, I'll try to post the one crappy poloroid picture I have of my dad and his 1964 gold sparkle Jazz bass. It did not have a matching headstock. Speaking of which, it was unique in that the headstock logo said just "Fender" not "Jazz Bass" or anything else. He traded it in 1968 for a new Telecaster Bass, that I still have to this day.

No.

Fender did do custom one-off sparkle finishes. I've played a 1959 strat with a chartreuse sparkle finish that was factory done in 61-ish. There was even a paper trail of documentation. They're out there.
This is true.
I've seen a P-bass with this type of sparkle. (Red)
And, a friend has a early 60's Tele, in blue sparkle.
Fender did do this.

I know this is a dead thread, but fantastic news!!! I have located my dad's 1964 Gold Sparkle Jazz Bass, and if all goes well, it will be back in the family next week!!!!!!! This pic is from 1968l

wow that is crazy - how did you find it?
After talking to a lot of fellow musicians in the area where I live, word spread quickly that I was looking for it...and low and behold, it was still in Carbondale, IL where I live, owned by a musician I was acquainted with. We started talking, and I had a chance to identify the bass and it was indeed THE bass. I just wish I could have found it when my dad was still living. He always wondered what happened to it. Pics will be posted if the deal goes through.
