Hello all.

Some time ago, I was given the possibility to buy a vintage Fender.

You can see the details about that here: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/fender-precision-1975-price.1584878/

Anyway, I bought it but only recently I have been giving the attention this bass deserves.

Overall it is a very nice bass. Not the best I ever played, but it is currently my favourite.

Not too heavy, no neck dive, solid neck pocket, good action, and that vintage look that I think looks great.

I think it is all original, except the input jack and the pickup screws. But I would like the opinion of TB experts.

Here are the pics:

Recorded through smartphone, TI Flats. Sounds like a P bass:

Looks to be all original. 1975 mid-year is when the central pg screw near the G-string appeared. Early '75s and older don't have the extra pg screw. By '86 it was gone. Nice P-bass

Looks correct.*

Along with the Jack, the harness wiring has been modified - and I'm not 100% on the pots.
Did you happen to get a photo of the pot's date code? (or the pickups?)
It's certainly wouldn't be a deal breaker!
Nuts, jacks and even pots eventually get replaced. How's the truss rod? (skimmed the related thread)

And it sounds like a '75 -even from a phone recording! It has that "bite" and snarl my '75 has that separates that era a bit from the 60s.

Congrats!

The body color, patina- and the pickup wire rout seem correct for that period. I had a 1973, and it still had the old style rout without that top channel cut into the body. The string nut looks newer, The tone cap, and input jack are not original. A Switchcraft mono jack to put it back to typical- is about 7 bucks or less. The orange drop cap, is fine. Not a big deal As far as everything else goes, it appears to be a heavily worn good old P-bass. Typical finish flaking-off, and the poly headstock face discoloration.. yeah, it was played. It sounds good, too. If you like it, and the price is right.. go for it!

Thank you for the replies. I cleaned the bass with some wipes and I removed some of the yellow stains. The bass was dirty and sticky in some points and I needed to clean it. That’s probably what @SJan3 is talking about.

Awesome, and I concur it's mostly OG. I've had lots of jacks fail and replace all mine with PureTones, so that's not a big deal to me. The tone cap is a fine replacement. This era was not very coveted when I started playing bass but has grown to be very appreciated. I used to have a 74 (lost to a fire) - one of the finest playing and sounding basses I've ever had. Looks like some nice nicotine staining on the headstock.

A very cool looking Dee Dee bass. Can you see the pickup date stamps on the bottom of the bobbins? Or have the pickups fused to the pickup foam? The pickups look old going by the oxidation on the mags but they've definitely been in and out of the bass at least once, going by the messy solder blobs on the pots. Everything else looks good - aftermarket orange drop capacitor of course, but you can pick up OG style ceramic disk .05's pretty easy these days if you want it to look totally OG under the hood. And it sounds beautiful - that up the neck chord stuff, sweet! Bass sounds like a true 70's P. Great score! Just be careful with cleaning the "sticky" zones - when a finish has degraded that much, even plain water will further degrade the lacquer.
