I find the tone knob on this thing (the 60th) is so much better than on my 08 P-bass ... (which I still LOVE!!!)

Fender 60th Anniversary Precision Bass

I find the tone knob on this thing (the 60th) is so much better than on my 08 P-bass ... (which I still LOVE!!!)

I am indeed. Just need to get photos taken and the post together. Serial number is Z8153906. Sunburst/rosewood. In perfect condition except for a few small compression marks on the side, near the strapholder. They're not visible unless you really look, but full disclosure. I replaced the pickups with Nordstrand P's. A definite upgrade to my ears; I no longer have the originals. Stap-Lok system included. Also, strung with fairly new LaBella flats.
Just wanted to throw in there that I bought one of these and its probably the nicest bass or guitar I've ever owned.

Even more special is its a new experience for me #1) to buy a brand new bass and #2) not want to do a single mod to it.

Its not as light as my 50th Anniversary P-bass but its not heavy either. I also felt an overwhelming desire to change the pickup and electronics on the 50th...but not the 60th. The Fender "Vintage P" is a winner and the pots are smooth and reactive.
I know I've said this before.... but I'm really going to try to grow old with this one.

I've played two of them, both at local Guit. Centers. The first was the Vintage Blonde (my choice of color) but I wasn't impressed. Maybe it needed a better setup. The second was the Burst, it felt nicer, and seemed noticeably lighter. To me, the price is reasonable, considering the fact that I own two Sadowskys and I'm considering having Roger and Co build an "Original P' for me. It would run a bit more, over $2K more. I'd go for the Vintage Blonde over an ash body, have the straight single coil style pickup, possibly a hum-cancelling, and maybe upgrade the fretboard to flame maple. Also, a 1 1/2" neck with a 9" radius. It would look awesome, probably weigh under 8 pounds and sound great...with a set of flats. I would definitely go the Sadowsky route before "Custom Shop". I've owned a couple of those and found them to be very unimpressive. Hell, on my last "Custom Classic' Jazz, The pickguard didn't line up with the control plate and there was ridiculous swirl marks in the finish. After a nine month wait! I think I need some Beano!!!!!
OK, this is all you guy's fault. I've seen the blonde one and thought it was pretty hot. Then I was reading this thread Friday and learned about the burst finish at GC. I go on the GC website and see that the Seattle store has one, and the Kirkland store has one too. This means I'm probably toast since I work near the Seattle store, and my daughter lives near the Kirkland store. Yesterday she asks me if I can come over and help her hang a mirror. Of course I have to stop at GC and the picture below tells the rest of the story.
Really, it's a fantastic bass, and in the store the setup was amazingly good. I got it home and found it was tuned to Eb so bringing it up raised the action a bit more than I like. But a quick turn of the truss rod will fix that. I've already played it at a gig today and, well, it did the job just fine.
This means now I have 4 P-basses, but I've been on a quest to find the perfect one. Time will tell, but I might just be there, and it will be time to thin the herd.

I had to do quite a bit of intonation work on mine. Now has super low action with no buzz anywhere.
You guys sure aren't helping to alleviate my GAS.

I like the contoured body; I like the newer styled headstock, and I like the pickup. The bridge is a non-issue for me. I like the new bridge, but have no problem with the vintage style either.
I already have 3 nice P's, and sure don't need another one. But I really like the looks of the blonde one. The burst is nice too; but personally, I prefer rosewood with a burst. So if I end up getting one, it'll be the blonde. Guess I'll have to go play one to see if it feels and sounds as good as it looks.

Uh oh. I hate to be an "enabler," but I so agree with what you said. I personally find the mix of styles to be a good/cool thing. I most likely wouldn't have been interested in the bass if it was a straight or faithful re-creation of an early 50s P. The 60th Anniversary P is an animal unto itself.

I will say this, I liked the bass right out of the box but after a pro setup with new strings ....I was blown away with it.
Speaking of Sadowsky....this would be my next bass if I can ever afford it

I just recently bought one from GC in the 2 tone SB and love it. I personally hate the '51 headstock. It had a nick on the bottom and got them to take off a couple hundred bucks.
I also picked up a used/new 50th anniv jazz, very cool bass as well IMO.
You should check out the Mike Lull. Bass Northwest has one in stock.

I was killing some time in Sam Ash the other day and saw they had this bass just come in. It is an amazing sounding, I sat there and played it for a while. Great feel, smooth, and just sings. I am typically not a P-bass fan, partly because of the neck, but this is one of the best sounding basses i've heard lately.
It came with Fender rounds. I am putting half rounds on it today and keeping my classic Rotosounds on my 08 MIA P-bass. This way I can have thumpy and grindy!
I played one a few weeks ago and liked it, the neck was great. Currently own a Fender MIA Jazz so I dont really need one - still I think about it from time to time.
