Maybe a lot of work for you guys, but I figure it takes 30 minutes to re-pack a bass and drop it off at UPS. If you buy a MIA Std with a 15% coupon, you pay just over $1k. Maybe its just me, but I don't get paid $1k for 30 minutes of work. It's also not common to find a new MIA Std, 60th P and Bassman TV 15 at the same place at the same time.
Really, if the OP is questioning the differences between the two basses, the only way he will see it for himself is to try out both basses [preferably at the same time]. Just my two cents.
Last time I returned something to MF, I got a full refund, only had to pay return shipping which was $28.
I'm guessing that the MF purchase you made came with the common "free shipping" special they run. Because their return policy states "you can return it for a full refund or credit (of the product purchase price)". In essence they're saying "You eat freight. So that $28 is now $56 for one instrument, and that IS a lot of money. Especially if you do this with 3 retailers.

My plan to check one out in-person on Friday was foiled by major traffic delays that turned my one-hour drive into a two-hour drive, thus precluding the planned stop at the music store before band practice. I'll just go by there the next time I'm up that way. Stay tuned....

Lets back up a minute. I'm not suggesting doing this with all three retailers - pick one, any of the three will work. MF is my online retailer of choice and always offers free shipping if you spend over a certain dollar amount. Both basses will easily exceed this amount. Re-read the return policy. It clearly says "product purchase price". Now, if you originally pay for shipping and have to return something, then yes, you will eat double freight.
The closest music store to me is 30 miles away. Using the standard government business car allowance of $0.51 per mile, this would cost $30.60 just to drive there and back plus a minimum of 2 hours of my time. That also assumes they have what I want in stock, or I'd have to make an extra trip or two. Buying online (a) guarantees they have the product in stock; (b) delivers it right to your door; and (c) gives you a chance to try the bass in your own environment. Plus, let's say you return both of them. You spend $56. Still cheaper than going to the store, bringing one home and then later deciding it isn't for me.
But, as the old saying goes, to each his own.
Given that the closest music store (that has what I want in stock) is 60 miles from me, I would almost certainly do it this way if it weren't for the fact that I go up that way with some regularity for other reasons, in which case the music-store visit can be a short side trip (um, traffic permitting). Plus, I'd prefer to buy from the local guy if possible.

I'm curious about how you got the 15% off at GC. Normally, all of their advertised sales (15% off; 10% off; etc.) have a list of exclusions of companies who will not participate in the discount price. Fender is always one of those companies. Did they give you the 15% off without any hassle?

as you all know, the Guitar sewer, I mean Center, has all kinds of promos every month, and 15% off anything on holidays, etc...I simply asked them if they'd give me 15% off, mentioning the 15% off deal they had on the 4th of July. Last weekend they had a 15% off if you traded something in, even a cheap foot pedal, I didnt have anything, but either way they still took off 15%. The headstock had a very few tiny dings that I mentioned so they took off another $25.00. I have a Git center credit card which means zero down, no interest for a year so it will be easy to pay off.
Wait, back up a minute.... sunburst? I thought the new version that we've been talking about was available only in "blackguard blonde." Are you sure you didn't buy some other, older "anniversary" model?
GC has a sunburst one. I like the way it looks, but I prefer the blonde... oh, and the blonde color guitar is pretty cool too...
