Still confused. Is this the sunburst one?

Interesting... it seems that I can't find the bass anywhere on GC site or Musiciansfriend. It's still on Sweetwater. Is it possible the run is over??!?? I doubt it.
No, that's not it. I've seen the sunburst one at GC, and it's simply a sunburst version of the 60th P-Bass we've been seeing in the blonde with black guard.
Fender must really enjoy confusing the world with its various flavors of anniversary models. I'm nearly certain the blond is the one and only model of the new bass marking the 60th anniversary of the P Bass. The link above was a P Bass issued for Fender the company's 60th anniversary. Different bass.
BTW, I'm GAS'ing for this thing. But wouldn't pay $1,500 for what essentially is an American Standard in nitro, with that A string washer thingy and special styling. As someone said earlier, Fender is betting people will shell out more for what *may* be a collectible. The also-very-nice 50th anniversary Jazz last year carried a price tag of $1,999 (only 500 made supposedly), but if you were persistent in watching TB, eBay and Craigslist, you could get one for $1,600.

guitar center, with all there buying power, special ordered some amount of the 2 tones. Fender or GC wouldnt or couldnt tell me how many, but Im sure the number isnt very high, and once they are gone, it may be difficult, or impossible to get another. I do agree that in some ways its unfair that Fender allows this...GC did the same with the Musicman Roasted stingrays that were supposed to be limited edition in the black sugar color, then guitar centers Platinum site starts selling them in 2 tone SB, gold, and other colors...I did like the other colors though better than the black sugar...good thing is for the Fender 60th, in 2-tone SB, is that there will be a much more limited edition of these than the blonde, my guess is around 100, I suppose if you did a store search you'd find out how many are out there....
I know its partly b/c I have the blonde, but I do like the blonde better than the SB for this bass ... I feel like SBs are so common lately. I know the SB will be limited, but if I think about the objective of this instrument (combine all the greatest features of 60 years of P-Basses) then blonde falls into that more than SB ... for me anyway. Just one guy's opinion.
I can't really provide any useful input, except to say that the bass in question does look absolutely gorgeous. The only things I'd possibly change would be to go for a tele-style headstock and rosewood fingerboard.
Just be careful which gigs you take it along to, as I suspect a number of audience members may be overwhelmed with an urge to either steal it or have sex with it.

Wow. I've been scouring the web daily for several weeks for information about this bass, and this is the first evidence I've seen that a sunburst version exists. As far as I can tell there is no mention of it on Fender's own site. (And "Platinum Guitar center"? ***???)
So, congrats to cambrio for finding it (and having the good sense to buy one!). I think I'm still partial to the "blackguard blonde," which is one of the things that caught my eye in the first place, but I gotta admit that that sunburst is a real looker too.
Fortunately, it looks like we'll be getting more info (and hopefully some pics) soon when soxhats gets home from his local GC later today, unless he decides to leave his wallet at home....

Well, (bleep) me. I did it. Thought it through and for, reasons particular to me, went with the sunburst. I played it through an Ampeg combo amp for quite a while. Also A/B'd with an American Standard P. (I'll be selling my 2008 MIA P now.) I realize the A/B is not a perfect comparison (don't know how long that Standard had been sitting there). But the 60th Anniversary really impressed me. Just a delicious P sound, more "vintage-y" to me than the American Standard. Deeper, darker, punchier. More clarity. Smoother and wider across the tone from rolled off to full on. And I just think it's beautiful. And (again, my own situation) I wanted a maple neck while the 2008 MIA P I'll be selling is rosewood. And I really like ash as a body material.
