Fender 7250M's only $5 at Guitar Center

Just went to buy a pack at GC and they rang up as only $5. The worker was surprised and asked a manager to verify and yes, the price is accurate. Not sure why either.

I was tempted to buy up the whole inventory at that price but they only had two packs left. After using the remaining $9 on my GC gift card I paid a whopping $1 for two packs of my favorite rounds.

I didn't ask if this price was for every GC (I would assume so), or if it also applied to the 7250L's, but it's worth checking out anyway!

Good to know the deal applies to the 7250L's too. But no, it's a bit of a myth or exaggeration that SS strings destroy frets. That is more true on vintage basses with softer frets. Unless you play with a very heavy hand I wouldn't even worry about it with normal SS rounds, much less flats.

Thank you for chiming in. It was the GC salesperson who told me to stay away from SS unless my bass has SS frets. He says the hard SS would rapidly eat away the softer nickel frets.

Many thanks to everyone who posted here. You saved me a lot of money. I went to my local guitar center in Monroeville PA looking for a set of flat wounds for my $90 Glary fretless that is in route. I figured what could be better than a $5 set of strings. They were already sold out of flat wounds so I just got two pairs of the Fenders to throw into my gig bags as broken string backups. Today I got sent across the city for work so I stopped into the guitar center over there. They were also out of the flat wound but they had their sun beams marked for $5 also. That's my brand so I bought both sets that they had left. I came back here to tell you guys but someone else already did. So then just now I went back to the Monroeville store and got the three more sets of sunbeams that they had. So I've got a year supply or better for almost free. I appreciate you guys sharing the knowledge.

That's great to hear! I've wasted so much money over the years trying out different strings that it's nice to finally get a little of it back.

I'm still curious why they are marked down so much though. Is Fender and DR pulling out of GC? Or redesigning the strings and making way for new inventory? Maybe sales are really bad right now?

The fact that it's not advertised points to it not being a sale. If fact, all three people who rang me up had no idea that they were so cheap. One guy said "I hope these make it to the end of my shift". They are either discontinued or being rebranded. I would think that if they were severing ties with those lines then the Neons would also be marked down (in which case I would be stocking up on those as well, lol. Especially the yellows which would look killer on my Pittsburgh bass.)

In a somewhat related matter, of the five sets I bought, three were labeled short scale and two weren't. I figured I could use the shorts on my Beatle Bass copy. Once I got to the car I set them down and noticed that they all have the same catalog number. So I pulled out strings from each set and they are seemingly identical. I thought the shorts would be cut shorter but they are all the same length and all plenty long enough for my Jazz or Soundgear. So my plan is to ignore the marking of short scale and use them all on my gigging basses. If the BB repairs go well I will get some tapewounds for it. Perhaps this confusing fact is why they may be redoing the Sunbeams line.
