Fender 9050 flats

By the way, this may not help you, but the American Professional Fretless Jazz also comes factory equipped with the 9050L.
I also like TI flats, but I don’t feel a need at all to take the 9050s off and put the TIs on.
I use D'Addario flats, absolutely love them. I've seen them get mixed reviews, but on my Fender Modern Player J they give a great thump/bark, and on my fretless Sire they're perfectly balanced between bright/singing and low-end power.
I do use D'Addarios on all my instruments, so there's probably some brand-loyalty bias, I have to admit!!

Still love the XL170's, but just can't fully dig the Chromes on my '73 Mustang, hence my search for the used Fender 9050L set. They're also made by D Daddario, but a slightly different formula than Chromes.
WHAT!! No Chromes???I don't really have A favorite flatwound brand/gauge. Out of 24 basses, only 2 of them wear rounds (GHS Boomers) because that's the tone I want from them. Two others wear tapes (Roto 88's) because that's the tone I want from those two. All the others? Flats. Currently, they're wearing:
- TI Jazz Flats
- La Bella Low Tension Flats
- La Bella DTFs, in various gauges
- Sadowsky Blue Labels (old style)
- Sadowsky Black Labels
- Optima RB Flats
- Fender 9050M's
- Roto 77's (including the Steve Harris Signatures)
- GHS Precision Flats
- Dogal R44 flats
I find that there's as much difference among flats as there are among rounds, and I like my basses to sound... just the way I want them to. Which has meant a lot of experimenting and string changing. And it's still on-going; there are 4 or 5 basses that I'm still fussing around with. I don't know what they'll wind up wearing as their "forever" strings, but I do know that they'll be flats. Unless they wind up with Roto 88's...
I started with the 9050 medium set, but didn’t like the tension, switched to the Lights and absolutely love them. Very versatile on my us jazz!
I just put a set of 9050MLs on my PJ with Aguilar pickups and man, so far I am loving the sound and feel. Slightly higher tension than the previous Boomers, but nothing extreme. Nice balanced mids, not too bright or boomy, and a great smooth feel on them. I'll see how I feel once they have some playing time, but color me impressed!
Maybe it's the my Player's pickup lacking in bass but I'm starting to get annoyed by the nasal mids of the 9050ML. I do love the feel and the tension though. They sound much better now after a couple of months. The clackiness is gone.
Just wondering. What Player Series do you have?
I was thinking of putting 9050’s on my Player Jazz to get some growl. Have GHS P Flats on atm which sound great but I would like to get a little growl back.
2020 Player Precision, alder body and maple fretboard.
I actually got a Vintera P this week with the intention of putting the flats on it and keeping the Player with rounds but the bass came with a number of issues so I have to return it. Too bad. I'll never be able to afford it again. Prices are ridiculous now. The only option is putting a Vintera neck on the Player.
