Fender 9050 price hike?

I seem to recall Fender wanted 35-40 bucks for 9050 strings on their web site. Went there tonight, and they're charging $70 now. Went over to the big A and got them for $29. Dunno if that'll continue or if Fender will also raise prices to retailers. A lotta other flats start being more interesting if 9050s start getting expensive.

Prices are pretty random right now; I was researching 5-string flats a couple weeks ago and prices for what I had in mind were anywhere from $50-80, setting aside imported and exotic string sets. I'm guessing manufacturers are already facing higher production costs and raising their prices but retailers won't be increasing their prices until they sell off current inventory and place new orders.

Thanks for the heads-up. I just placed an order for two sets of the 9050L from Strings By Mail at $34.99 ea.

The one trend that has been consistent over my lifetime; prices will go up over time. (as will the markets in general)

Google is your friend here; ;) (legitimate) Options from $29.00 for light gauge come right up.

I wouldn't bet on that...
IME - that's not necessarily how retail works. They will adjust to current market / competitor trends.

Considering how much we paid for these in the 7O’s, it’s still a bargain.

This is the correct take. I work for a major retailer, and we are already adjusting prices for anticipated hikes. Long story short, if you see prices on unexpendables that are appealing to you, might not be bad to stock up

But I only thought this would happen to things I don't care about.

I see the TI Jazz Flats I'm devoted to are almost $100 a set now. Last I had checked — admittedly a while ago — they were $74.

And yet my wages haven't gone up 25% in that time. Good thing they last a decade.

Technically, going from $75 to $100 is a 33% increase - even worse than you thought! (100-75)/75 = 1/3 = 33%.

(My wages have actually gone down in the last 10 years. Company got sold, had to find a new job and it paid less, and no annual raises bc it’s a small company that can’t afford to give out raises.)
