I think the exact same as Jeff62 above. I'm mechanically inclined and great at setting up my basses. First I'll set my truss rod to give the neck the perfect relief (for me) Then I'll lower my bridge saddles until I get some buzz, then raise them til it disappears. Of course there's more to it than that, but that's my basics. And that's the thing, it's what works for me. You set your bass up to make yourself happy.
I set up basses to their individual fretboards. I get the truss rod set, then set the string action as I like it. I usually follow the fretboard radius pretty closely and the bottom of the string is pretty much the same distance from the fretboard.
The 7.25” radius, especially on a narrow nut is actually why I no longer own an Aerodyne. I love the styling and the weight (or lack thereof) but those factors and the bound body on the top with its radius rubbing my arm are just uncomfortable to me.
I’m a 1.625ish” nut width with a much flatter radius kind of guy. That’s part of the reason I like the Frank Bello so much. It has all the great styling but for me it’s much more ergonomic.

Update: after seeing the wimpy pots and low-quality ceramic magnets in my Aerodyne, I decided to drop a set of Qtr Pounders and new electronics. Adding a set of half-rounds, but left the stock bridge in place.

I love the sound of my Aerodyne, and every Aerodyne I ever heard online, but you can never go wrong with quarter pounders.
The stock Pups of the Aerodyne don´t make the Aerodyne sound. IMO, it is the special bodyshape in combination with the basswood, which give the Aerodyne that typically woody sound.
Just bought another Aerodyne two weeks ago. The one I bought last year(or the year before) was stolen from my bands jam space. I honestly think this aero sound better than the last. The pickups to me are definitely not dead or dull and even with the stock fender strings this bass sings. Using it in a punk rock and classic rock band and it fits both bills. My poor AM Pro jazz doesn't see much play time any more.
Hey y'all: I just got a MIJ Aerodyne AJB-M. It's the non-export 32" JJ version of this model. Lovely bass and it plays and sounds great, now I'd like to put some ultralight tuners in it. I'm scrolling through this thread but I have not seen a definitive verdict about what size/model would work.
Does anyone have this same bass and who has sucessfully put lighter-weight tuners in it? What did you use? I don't care about a direct drop in, I know the holes on the back of the headstock won't line up, I'm just trying to figure out what size post is correct or close enough to work.
Shoot, while I'm asking, has anyone put an Audere preamp in one? I'm not sure if it's a standard sized control plate, I can measure it but I'm sure someone in this club has the expertise to advise.

Cool find! Those are some pretty rare birds on this continent.
As for the Ultralites, have you contacted Hipshot directly? They already have a drop-in detuner for Aerodynes (BT10), so they should know exactly what you need.

Just got my Aerodyne Jazz Bass. Plain old black export and I love it! Roto 77s and that’s it. Can I have an Aerodyne club number? Thanks

She’s all done. New set of QP’s, and beefed up electronics. Switched to a set of trad Jazz knobs as I like the look.
After an exhaustive and pretty much unsuccessful search for an aftermarket bridge that works with the recessed bridge cavity, I decided to leave the stock one.

At one point Hipshot had told me that they make a bridge that would fit the Aerodyne recessed bridge pocket, but I don’t remember which one it was.
I’ve got a new set of pickups just arrived for mine. Now I need to get busy & put my workshop back together so I have a place to work on it - we just moved a few months back - some things are still in a state of disarray.
Hey @bunky1998 - what model is your bass mate? It looks like an Aerodyne with the bound body edges but it looks like that bass has more traditional contouring? I really like the construction and aesthetics of my Aerodyne AJB-110DMC, but my biggest grip is the sharp bound edge digs into my forearm while playing....I'd love to be able to get the aesthetic of the Aerodyne model with standard body contouring.
