Nice work. Many years ago, my Dad had a hobby he called “whittling”. Basically it was carving miniature replicas of objects of interest. I have a small banjo & guitar set that he made probably 40 years ago.
Say there, Mr. tyjacks, that For Sale ad of yours is still active in the Classified section. Would you mind changing it to No Longer Available or something? I was starting to drool and now you're snatching it away from me and breakin' my heart. Be kind!

I've got a question about the Aerodynes that have a pick guard (like some older ones and the non-export models from Japan). After I buy me a used Aerodyne, I will need to add a thumb rest above the strings. I'm wondering if the existing screw holes on the pickguards happen to be in the right place for installation without modification. Anybody know?
Please advise. It would even be useful if someone could simply measure theirs and let me know the center-to-center distance between those 2 pickguard screw holes, and the distance from the screw hole to the edge of the pickguard. I could compare those measurements to the tug-bar on my other bass. Many thanx, gang.

Have you looked into something like this?
Also, just to be a cranky little nit-picker
, all pickguard-less, Strat-jack'd Aerodynes are Export Editions. Anything else is a Non-Export Aerodyne. (I know, I know…NERRRRRRD!! 
)

Got my eye on an '03 Aerodyne in the local Craigslist. It's been there a while, and I'm mildly interested in it. Had an initial exchange with the seller yesterday, confirmed it's 34" scale. Had Seymour Duncan QPs installed at some point. He may be up for a trade...
A first-run Aerodyne, eh? Nice! (2003-04 is when they first hit the market)
Which version is it? Export, Non-Export, P/J, J/J?

P/J, which makes it more attractive to me. I kinda' wish it were a 32" scale, cause that's what I prefer. I don't know how to tell export or non-export though... what do I look for?

The non export models have a pick guard, dot inlays on the neck, and have the standard jack not the strat jack. Here’s mine:

So, given that information, I suppose what I'm looking at is a first generation export market, Crafted in Japan, with modded (upgraded?) pickups. Couple minor dings, which I gather the basswood body is prone to. Sound about right?

The center to center spacing on mine between the two holes I circled is 2.200” and .250” from edge to hole center....

Edward, since your regular quiver is heavy on Alembics I’d advise giving the Aerodyne an extended play, not just a quick once over. The ergonomics aren’t for everyone. I absolutely love my Aerodyne, but the sharp edge my right arm encounters is proving increasingly difficult to live with. I’ve tried the usual workarounds, including putting a scrunchy around my forearm, but no lasting fixes yet. It doesn’t help that the sharp edge is also a prime site for chipping, which make the feel even more uncomfortable. Like I say, it’s an amazing bass. Just wish they contoured the top radius a bit more.Thanks for the info fellas... if it works out I'll be back to join up.
Yes, thanks. I’ve even tried an extra-long sweatband under a long sleeve shirt, to keep the sweatband from sliding around. Problem is, the entire forearm can shift significantly as I modify tone by moving my right hand towards the neck or to the bridge. No softening that, unless I get some sort of arm cast made out of gummy bears, or something.
Let me be clear: I own two. The necks are fantastic.

Dustybottom, thanx so much for the measurement! I see I should have been more explicit since I would position my thumb rest above the gap between the pickup and the neck. Do you think those 2 screw holes are the same distance apart as the 2 you already measured? Thanx a bunch!
