So I was having an issue with the bridge in the MIJ JJ Aerodyne. It adjusts super high and the adjusting bolts seemed tilted and a bit wonky. Anyway, put a KTS on it and WOW. Between it, the DiMarzio p’ups and some Rotosound 66 swing SS strings, I’m totally in love with the setup.

Is that a MIJ non-export? I think it was advertised that the neck has a compound radius, except I don't read Japanese.

Yes it's a non-export. I am at work but I will check the neck once I get home later. I don't think it is compound radius but I could be wrong.

The necks are wonderful in part because of the satin finish. They are very smooth and quick. I also love the stained rosewood which another unique feature of the Aerodyne.
I am now looking for a red one in medium scale.

I have two, one export (black) and one non-export (dolphin gray). I do have a question about the compound radius, what is it? Sorry about the question, but this is the first I have heard about the compound radius.

Coumpound necks are when the shape of the neck goes from one shape to another. Say a C to a D shape.
Compound radius neck is when it is rounder at the nut and flatter at the body end (typically).
Some think there is an advantage to this in the guitar camp. Bass - meh (YMMV)..

It looks like the export models at least no longer feature the stained rosewood, but use plain rosewood instead.

Per Sweetwater...
A compound radius neck has a smaller (rounder) radius at the nut, and a larger (flatter) radius at the neck and body joint. As the neck gets wider, the fretboard gets flatter.

Just measured mine, 9.25" at both ends...

Mine are older and the flame maple variety, so may be different specs?

Confirmed. "Radius" and "Neck Shape" are two, different values. Radius is strictly focused on the curvature of the fretboard. The shape refers to the back end of the neck. Not counting the oddball models (medium scalers, five stringers, etc…) and the newer Aerodyne II's, most Aerodynes have a modern-shaped neck and a vintage-style fretboard radius, a combination one doesn't see too often. I suspect that's why their necks stand out from the rank-and-file Fenders (re: Modern "C" + 9.5" radius).

If one would like to see what a compound radius'd neck feels like, try out a Fender American Deluxe, Elite or Ultra model. It's one of their selling points.

On a side-note, adding the two variables together can sometimes lead to interesting combinations. One of my favorite examples is the Fender Classic '70s Jazz; a vintage radius combined with a chunkier front-to-back, "Seventies 'C' Shape" and you've got a neck some describe as having a "baseball-bat-like feel". Personally, I think they feel great, but I'll be the first to admit they're not for everyone, ergonomically speaking.
