Pretty good price for a unique color, but I'm not in the market atm. Would be cool if it was medium scale.

I keep coming across new colors of Aerodyne. I wish they made some of them in the US at the moment. Here's one I've never seen before.

Sadly, that's not a new color. The "S" serial numbers were some of the last "Crafted In Japan" instruments, placing it's origin somewhere between 2006 and 2008. It's a testament to the awesome aesthetic groove Kanda-Shokai was capable of when they were running Fender-Japan. Nowadays, their products are a pale shadow compared to their pre-2015 offerings.

I think you misinterpreted what I meant by new. I thought the sentence made clear that I meant "new to me." Especially since I went on to say that I wish these colors were still available (and in the US).

Ahh, I see what you mean now, but your "I keep coming across new colors of Aerodyne" statement left a bit of room for interpretation. However, my intent wasn't to score a "gotcha/neener-neener" moment, rather to make certain to anyone and everyone reading this thread that the model you linked was not a new color configuration. Bob knows, I think we'd both love to see FMIC start getting bolder and braver with their designs. No misinterpretation there, ja?

Yeah, it's a little annoying that you can go into any Guitar Center and find an Aerodyne but they're all black. I'm a big fan of mine, but all-black basses are some of my least favorites. OTOH, you have to scour the internet for other colors and then you still end up paying hundreds of dollars more.

More than a little. Personally, I think the all-black look is as sharp as an assassin's blade, but I do love me some variety. (…just as long as that "variety" doesn't cost an arm and a leg! )

I gotta agree with your first two picks. If I could have a Non-Export edition, those would be in my top three. Out of curiosity, where would you rank this limited edition Koa Aerodyne?

Ooh. I LOVE that. Probably comes in at #2 at the worst. Might even be my favorite.

The vast majority of them are P/J's. Off the top of my head, the rare J/J's include medium-scalers, the DiMarzio editions and the spectacularly rare five-stringers. There may be more than that, but if so, I can't remember them right now.

Ah ok. I wanted one in a J/J config but a full scale. Not meant to be. Either way they are great basses!!

I can see two ways to fabricate a J/J Aerodyne. One would be to have Warmoth cut one for you. The other would be to get a Non-Export Aerodyne like this…

…get a new pickguard and have it routed out for a second single-coil pickup.

I went with the pearloid on my replacement guard, too (black, though). It just seemed to call for it!

This one came with it, but I tried to do the reverse - and a Fender precision pickguard (modern, American or Mexican style) fits. I bought a white one, but by that point the pearloid had grown on me and I decided to leave it on.

Here’s mine - a relatively recent addition, a non-export Q serial number, CIJ, which fender tells me dates from 2003-2004. Fender also says it is a non-pickguard model, but I dunno about that, it’s not easy to find P pickguards that are placed correctly.

I usually play a P bass - this P pickup is slightly closer to the neck than a standard P pickup. I also usually play Chromes - for this, I went with Rotosound flats, and I really like them, they feel great and sound authoritative. The stock pickups are good, I have a set of QP PJ’s that I considered putting in it, but after playing it with the band I don’t see a need anymore.

I took it out of the case and everyone said "ooooo... shiny!"

The neck is the real charmer. It doesn’t feel skinny like a Jazz usually feels to me, although it is 1.5” at the nut. The neck profile seems thicker front-to-back than I’m used to, but it feels really good and fast.

Any good places online for replacement knobs? I like the chrome Strat style knobs, but they’re a little tarnished.

Contemplating new pots, and swapping the bridge for a Fender high mass BadAss style.
