The tone pot on my aerodyne is very good, a wide range of tones..worked well with the stock pups, and Duncan quarter pounders that I had installed..

I made a short video showing the effect of the tone knob:



I still don't think that the tone control is doing as much as on my other basses. Thoughts?

Thanks for the vid! I just listened to it through a set of Audio-Technica ATH-S200BT headphones (damn good wireless headphones, despite costing waaaaay less than $100, by the way :headphone: :thumbsup:) and it's definitely taking away some of the higher frequencies. That being said, I agree…it's not having a huge impact on the overall sound. Perhaps it's rolling off the highs while leaving the mids/low-mids alone?

Honestly, if the tone pot and cap aren't doing much for someone, it's not a huge deal to install a new one, either by oneself or for a guitar tech. I can't remember which type is the right one to go with for a tone pot (audio, linear, taper or whatever), but I know the info is out there. Perhaps someone in the Aerodyne Club can give some learned advice, ja?

Yah they're gorgeous. I bought mine used with a few nicks, mostly on the back luckily. There was a new one in the local shop, it was bought by a 12 year old girl. She worked and saved her money to buy it. I bet she's a great player.

Indeed they are! :thumbsup:

Here's a simple guide;
  1. All Aerodynes are manufactured in Japan…no exceptions. Anything else is either a parts-bass, a fake or it's owner doesn't know jack-spit about them.
  2. If it's the all-black model with no pickguard/control plate and it's rockin' a Stratocaster output jack, it's an "Export Edition", meaning it's the model specifically for export and sale outside of Japan.
  3. Any other Aerodyne is considered a "Non-Export Edition" and is made solely for the Japanese market. Still, some do make their way overseas.
My first-ever bass was an Export Edition Aerodyne, but for a little while, I owned a Candy Apple Red (CAR) Non-Export.

The Non-Export's pickups didn't seem to be quite as "boss" as my first-ever's, but that could be a bit of bias at work there. It's worth mentioning that I used an MIJ Precision pickup in a parts-bass and it was pretty kick-ass, so it's my belief that those particular pickups were just "meh:meh:" and not indicative of the entire product line.

Im thinking about putting quarter pounders or Geezers in mine. Ive already upgraded the bridge and side marker dots.
I do like the tone with the stock pups, it's got a unique 'fuzzy' tone compared to my J bass. But everyone seems to like the upgrade pups, so...

Help me Fender Areodyne Club.
I'm contemplating a new MIJ import to US Aerodyne from zZounds. I've never owned a Jazz Bass and have a lot of P Basses and figured an Areodyne would get me both worlds. zZounds rarely list weights on there website. Sweetwater shows 1 right now that weighs 8 lb 13 oz. I can handle that no problem but, I'd be upset if one showed up weighing much over 9 lbs.
Can anyone please tell me what theirs weigh so I can rest assured ???
