I can't claim to know the mind of @Shirobon (well, maybe some "approximate knowledge"
), but I'm gonna guess he means it's no big deal and you shouldn't sweat it.
What height do you all have your pickups set to? I've noticed my Aerodyne is stupidly loud compared to my other basses. Wondering if my pickups are way too high. Never really cared because it records well. It also means I get more volume out of my PF-50T, which is only a 50-watt tube amp. But just curious. I couldn't find any factory recommendations on a quick Google search.

I just use the standard Fender setup specs for pickup height as a starting point and then use my ears to balance them out. FWIW I have found my Aerodyne Special pickups to be a bit louder and even better sounding than my American Fenders. I had the 1st generation Aerodyne before and it had good punchy pickups. I’m a fan.
So if I just use the standard precision or jazz bass setup specs, that's a good starting point?
And yeah, I've heard people complain about the Aerodyne pickups. I think they sound good. How the bass records is the most important factor for me. My biggest complaint is that the J pickup is incredibly noisy even with the pickup cavity shielded. I'm thinking that's electrical interference at my house though.
Works for me and with the precision pickup I make sure it follows the neck radius as I set it up. For the Jazz pickup I start with the specs and usually raise it a bit.
It could also be 60 cycle hum and possibly noise from the electrical at the house. If you have properly shielded the bass I recommend looking at putting in a stacked Jazz pickup. That can help a lot.
I get noise out of the jazz pickup at home—as with all my single-coil pickups—but I’ve never had a problem at a gig.

Yeah, you took the words out of my mouth. That and laziness too.
If I turn my back to my amp the noise goes away.
However, when I'm plugged into my interface to record, the J pickup is too noisy no matter how I'm angled.

If it's a CIJ Q-series, that would put it somewhere around 2004, making it part of the first wave of Aerodynes to hit the market. And damn, but it looks to be in great shape for it's age.If I wasn't on a tight budget right now, I'd make an offer for the neck. I harvested the neck of a Q-series to go into my first successful parts-bass Projekt and it's a joy to play.

I'm a fretless guy and would split the neck/body deal with some one but Malak was before me.
I've been there and done that already, I bought a body then added a neck and EMG's. The thing is now one of my favorites and the only PJ configuration I'll play.
