What's funny, to me, is for a handful of years, the looks of those necks simply speak to me. But one day, I just "woke up" and found I really dug 'em. It's like my creative muse snuck up behind me and whacked me in the back of the head with one. Now, I have three parts-basses sporting '70s-style Squier necks and one more spare neck waiting to go onto whichever Projekt will wear it best...go fig!


That was such a sweet gesture! I mean, how many people here would sell or gift one of their favorites on a hunch?

Gift? Not this guy. But...for the right price...I'll sell any of my basses except for three. (And maybe even them, but the price is going to have to be really right!)

Loved my Aerodyne. It was loaded with EMG’s and sported a black blocked and bound maple Geddy Lee neck. I think that neck fully complimented the body aesthetically. It played, looked and sounded fantastic. Sold it to an amazing young man with a ton of potential cause I didn’t want him playing a POS! View attachment 5085702View attachment 5085703

Man that's a beauty! I love the neck on mine, but those Geddy necks are supposed to be pretty sweet.

Your post is a good reminder of what a great platform the Aerodyne is for upgrading. Mine was a fine bass stock, but it's a monster now! It's become my #1 gigging bass.

I started with a drop tuner and a black Kickass bridge. Then I swapped in the EMG Geezers, and added a 4-band Audere preamp. I recently drilled it for flush-mounted Dunlop strap locks, the mod that made me the most nervous. Drilling into that gorgeous body... I did have to Dremel-out the cavity to accommodate the Audere, but that was under the plate and pretty easy.

How well does that fit onto the flat area of the curved surface? Do you have a photo that shows it better than the black one above? Which year is your Aerodyne?

I guess I’m back in the club. Just put a set of Hi Beams on, installed strap locks, and did a setup. Played for a good while this afternoon and I think this is one heck of a bass.

Excuse the mess, snapped the pic as soon as I got home so I could send it to my son.

This is the current state my Aerodyne is in. I'm constantly tinkering with all my basses, but I think this will be how I'll keep it for a bit. I never really use the Jazz pickup so I just left it out. I always have the tone fully dimed so the pot is tucked away inside the cavity. I kind of dig the whole single knob look.

Neat trick with the bridge pickup. Am I correct in thinking it’s an empty pickup cover laying somewhat flush to the body? If so, cool idea.

Yep, that's what it is. I didn't want to make any permanent changes to the bass and that way if the mood strikes I can reinstall the jazz pickup.

I honestly haven't noticed any real difference. It sounds practically identical to my American Performer with a Geezer P/J with the bridge pickup turned down when I run it through my pedal board and amp.

I'm sure there's someone with a more sophisticated ear that can hear a difference, but in a live setting, I've have never been able to.

I forget by how much, but the ‘Dyne has it’s P-pup nudged a bit closer to the neck. (On the subject of “P/J pickup placement”, I gotta give another shout-out to my personal favorite, the Fender Reggie Hamilton Jazz. Best split-coil location ever…in my opinion, of course. )
