Thanks for the suggestion about Cobalt Flats. I had an old set which I just put on. They really get done what I'm trying to do with this bass - downtuned 70s hard rock and 90s grunge.

Seriously, though, I'll ask a professional artist I'm acquainted with (aka "da boss"...aaka "my wife") if she knows a non-messy way to tint them a bit. The worse she can say is "Nope".
Before I post anything to the classifieds, I thought I'd mention this here first. I'm going to be purging some gear, including some neck/body combos...essentially, the "skeletons" of a Jazz bass or two. One "skeleton" will be a 2004-ish, Crafted In Japan, "R" serial number Aerodyne neck combined with an alder J-body I bought from Gamma Basses about five years ago. I'll also be giving any interested parties the option of including other necessary parts along with the "bones". (Pickups, control plate, Hipshot Drop-D tuner, etc...)

Here's my two Aerodyne, still have my eyes on the Aerodyne II from the Japanese market. I gotta say, the Aerodyne series is probably my favorite bass of all time.

Hey everyone, I got in on the chocolate burst pricing error and my new bass arrived today. Out of the box, it looks great and the neck is immaculate, but it needed a setup all around. After adjusting pretty much everything, it now plays and sounds pretty dang good.
Some notes, would love to hear any thoughts on them:
- The fit and finish are top notch, and the design features of the bass are super integrated. For example, the bridge is routed into the body of the bass, which I wasn’t expecting. Luckily the bridge seems solid and looks nice.
- It shipped with a pretty fairly loose truss rod. I ended up tightening by a quarter turn.
- The stock pickup heights were all kinds of wonky. The tone was significantly improved after I put them at my preferred height, around 1/4” under the string when fretting the highest fret. There was also a strong buzzing from the body when I played an open E that went away after I adjusted the pickup height.
- I tried to set it up the same as my Lakland Skyline Joe Osborn jazz, but I ended up with around 1/32” higher action. I couldn’t get it lower without the G string buzzing a lot in the higher register, starting around E. I’m wondering if the nut might be filed a hair low. Regardless, the bass plays great.
- Stock strings seem like hot garbage. Probably just need a fresh set. Thinking maybe GHS pressurewounds, since I’m already running nickel rounds on my Lakland.

Congrats on the bass. I had the loose truss rod on mine (white precision) when I got it but, like you, after an adjustment it is fine. I didn’t experience anything else you listed and I was able to get very low action after a setup. It really is a joy to play. Love the pickups on these basses.
I agree about the stock strings, I replaced them with a set of Hi Beams and I’m pretty happy. I hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of your bass.
I have the Dolphin Gray J. For a Fender traditionalist that I am, I SOOO love that bass..! All my other basses are very "vintage-y" in just about every way possible. My Aero I've left modern and I love the the way it plays and sounds although it is so different from the others. A good personal set up was all it needed.

I changed all the electronics in the Aerodyne PJ. MUCH better sound using the Geezer set.
The question I have: the EMG jack didn't want to fit into the existing angled jack hole and plate. I used the old one, which doesn't really grab the plug very tightly. I was wondering what you guys do when you have to replace the original jack, which I think is somehow a little smaller.

Yeah, I just wired it to the original jack, same issue you noted. It's been working fine that way for me. Maybe try bending the contact a little?
Yeah, I like the strat jack, but it complicates things. That is a tight little cavity.
I think I might convert it to a straight 90 degrees.
Yesterday, I put a set of LaBella Deep Talkin’ flats on my Export Aerodyne. Really liking it so far - it works really well with the P pickup, which is a bit closer to the neck on an Aero than on a regular P, and I can dial in a little extra bite with the bridge pickup. As a bonus, it looks really good with the matching headstock as well, as it’s the FS set with black silks. With the smoked chrome hardware, you kind of get a cool stealth vibe. 
Does anybody know which Hipshot Extender fits the Aerodyne Jazz Specials from Japan. I got one of the Chocolate Bursts during the price error. I love it but need to go Drop D sometimes. Going by the photos, it doesn't look like the BT10 is the correct one. Any help is appreciated.
Pretty sure it's the BT10. I have one on order for my AS Jazz. Don't remember where my research on the issue took me (it was a few months ago) but the conclusion was the BT10.

Welcome to TalkBass, Alan! Well done on your discount-score!
Tim is right in that the BT10 is the classic go-to for an Aerodyne. If this new series is indeed using the same tuners, that’s the way to go. And if not, we’ll hear about it sooner or later.

I don't think the BT10 is correct. It corresponds to the HB10, which is the correct fit for many MIJ basses.
If you see the spec for the HB10, screw holes on the bridge side are actually further apart than the screw holes on the headstock side.
