Fender Aerodyne Club!

And like @_Obra_ said, you don’t see any of them on the market on ebay or some other 2nd hand site. A lot of them with the pickguard, but can not find the jp combo without anymore.
Are there lots with the pickguard (ie non-export) for sale in Japan? I'd love a medium scale non-export and I don't mind the fees but the ones I see on ebay appear to be hijacked links.

I just checked out ebay like you. And a lot were offered from Japan. Did not open the links tough. There probably are, because they were made there and were mostly not exported to my knowledge. I do know there are not many Aerodynes to find without the pg. And i am no expert on this either 🙂

Thanks for your advice guys.

dumb question, but do simple mods like adding Straplocks devalue a rare instruments at all? I wouldn't think so, but you're removing an original part and if you want to add the original buttons back on you need to do the wood filler/tooth pick maneuver for the smaller original screw.

IMHO, every mod - except completely reversible ones - potentially devalues the instrument in some way. If you think you might want to sell your bass at some later date, I’d advise you to avoid them altogether. If you plan on keeping it, of course, you can do whatever mods you want.

@aarono2690 have you thought about other options to keep the strap secure on the strappins? A very common used thing for bassplayers and guitarists here in NL is the use of a rubber ring from a fliptop/swingtop-bottle. I never change straps between basses, so on all 3 of them i use this. Never once came of while playing or handling.
A small plus is that we take them from beer bottles, so they have to he emptied out before we can take them off. 🍻😄

I recall someone might have been looking for a medium scale AJB in dark metallic blue. Well, there's a lovely specimen here at a great price: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Note this is Australian dollars so about $USD850 at current exchange rates. I have no idea if they will ship internationally though.

Edit: based on some past dealings they are often open to negotiation on price, especially if the item has been there a while. This one is a fairly new listing though. It would be worth trying a lower offer all the same.

Cheaper to ship neck-off (no oversize charge):

You sir, are a gentleman.
Saw it, bought it, love it !!

Cool. Glad it worked out for you. It’s always a bit of a gamble when you can’t try it out before purchasing - especially when ordering from overseas. That looked like a fine bass though.

Give us a more detailed review when you get a chance.
Thanks again. I was nervous about getting a bass unseen from "down under" but it went like clockwork. The only slight flaw is a barely visible crack in the lacquer but if the vendor hadn't pointed it out I may never have even noticed it. Awesome sound, especially now it is strung with thomastik flatwounds. The only slight issue is some slight crackle when moving the tone knob but once it's set as I want there's no issue. My tech can sort it out with shielding if required but it's so slight I'm not inclined to bother. The bass is light, easy to play, sounds great and the Japanese build quality is superb. Shame these are now so rare but if you want one and see one advertised, go for it. I'll now sell my Sire U5 short scale as I'm settled on medium scale now.
Hope that helps.

Hey y'all, I've got an Aerodyne Special P bass that I'm thinking of changing the tuners on. The ones on it are really great, but pretty heavy and it makes it very unbalanced to play sitting or in classical position.

Has anyone changed these out and can recommend something that will drop in? I'm fine drilling a few holes but I'd like to avoid having to use spacers and extra bushings or anything like that.
