Fender Aerodyne Club!

Hi all,

Looks like I'm going to have to leave the club in about a week... I'm selling my black and cream 2009 Aerodyne Jazz :bawl:

On the good side, though, I've got a custom Fender Standard Precision in Midnight Wine with a black pearl pickguard, black control knobs, and a black Babicz bridge on its way! :bassist::hyper:

I can't put a link here (due to the rules) but it's for sale online at the 'bay if you're interested. You can figure out which one is mine by the description, I'm sure.

Of course, as long as there were no bids, I could always pull it from the online sale if someone here wanted a second one! :D

I'll check back in from time to time.... does this mean I have to give up my number?

I bought this bass in 2007 or 2008 primarily because I wanted a lightweight instrument for extended gigs (three night, three set weekends). I was a little unhappy with the stock neck, but I had kept the neck from a mid-90s MIJ Jazz that I had bought new at the time... it was a *really* heavy bass and I was never quite happy with the tone. The neck fit perfectly on the Aerodyne, and plays great on it - just had to adjust the saddle height to make it work. I also changed the pickguard and knobs, and put a pickup cover on it (I've always used one on my P-Basses).

Wanted to let you know that I've got Aerodyne Jazz replacement hardware parts for sale on TB... they are the smoked chrome metal that go on the black basses.

I bought these when I owned my Aerodyne and never got around to installing them before I sold it.

These are new, unused, unopened, and directly from the Fender factory. According to Fender, these parts are DISCONTINUED, so you may want to check these out.

I've got the full hardware set... tuners with bushings (4), bridge, and knobs (3).

Just trying to recoup my costs on these, so I'm asking what I paid for them (or best offer).

Another Aerodyne Jazz Bass owner here! (All Black no pick guard).
Picked it up in 2008, needed a lightweight bass because I had some neck and back issues. It's looks caught my attention, picked it up, played a few minutes...the rest is history.

I'm looking at upgrading my pickups, the J is too noisy for my liking, also I would like to get a more Vintage sound.
At the moment I'm considering Lindy Fralins or Nordstand (NP4 / NJ4SE) or AERO Type 1.
Has anyone tried any of these on an Aerodyne? Any othe suggestions on PUP's that could give a nice Vintage sound to this Bass.

I use a Seymour Duncan SPB-1 Vintage for P-Bass pickup on the neck and STK-J2 Hot Stack J pickup on the bridge. Sounds terrific!

I installed a BadAss bridge and it makes all the difference - sustain is incredible, stays in tune better, nice solid feel.

You might also check out this page, focusing on the column labeled "Electric Bass"; I recorded those using a Radial JDI direct box straight into the digital recorder. Nothing but pure bass.

FWIW, the neck pickup is on full, the bridge pickup is turned off, and the tone knob is at the half-way point. I'm using ground wound (half wound) strings.

Edit: P.S. all songs on the YouTube site use the Aerodyne except for "Schmaltz Liquor," which is with an acoustic bass.

No mods required. I removed the five screws on the original bridge and the BadAss fit exactly in the same spot.

But take note: there is a grounding wire pressed against the wood body underneath the bridge. Before installing the new bridge, make sure there is no paint (residue from the body) covering the wire. If there is paint on the wire, scrape it off the wire first before installation of the new bridge. Otherwise you may have bad grounding that can result in random crackling or popping sounds while you play the bass.
