I just put new strings on my American Special P Bass. First I took all of the strings off so that I could clean my fret board and body. I put the exact same new strings on that itcame with, same guage, brand etc. Once I was all done, I noticed that my action was now higher than I originaly had it set at. What happened?

It happens. Not always, but a good bit of the time. The exact strings will still be different, at the very least, in the tension, hence more pull on the neck lifting it up. As 96tbird said, set it up again. You may even get it better than it was.
