Fender Am Std Bridge vs Leo Quann's Badass II

I have nothing against the Badass bridges, just never been able to justify one for myself, as I do like the stock bridge.

I didn't hear a huge difference, but I did hear it. Was it all the bridge, or the fact that the setup changed just slightly from the install? Not sure.

The Fender sound seemed to have just a little more brightness and mid-range to my ears. The Badass sound as a little deeper, maybe richer, and in no way bad.

It just happens to be that the Fender sound is what I liked better.

Have you seen what type of bridge Fender puts on their best seller Marcus Miller signature bass as well as the great selling Geddy Lee basses? Would you say to these Grammy Award winning bassist that they don't know what they are doing, when they upgrade their basses, according to the"OEM bridge loving, " Badass bridge naysayers in this thread?

If you could take the time to read all the posts, such as post #3, you might be able to see who is bashing the aftermarket bridge.

That's still just an opinion which is what the OP asked for.:cool: and no it wasn't my post. I like BAII's but I love the Stock bent steel tone.:cool:

One confusing thing: I thought the BadA$$ bolted right up on the Fenders??

now the badass is a good bridge, with stable saddles and the ability to get correct string spacing.

that's something that's true of the stock american standard bridge, too (which is why i prefer them) but is not true of the typical '70s fender bridges with one groove per saddle. those have a tendency to slide around and get out of adjustment (due to the gaps between the saddles), and the spacing is too narrow for jazz bass pickups.

you could just replace the saddles with threaded ones to get the benefit, but otherwise i'd take a badass over the stock '70s bridge in a heartbeat for strictly mechanical reasons.

i have a jazz bass with each! and, i like them both for different reasons!

the badass "feels" solid and i want to keep it!

the stock 70's bridge works well but moves a bit!

as far as sound, i think the badass sounds a tad brighter!

so, i will just keep one of each!!

I don't care. What others put on their bass is irrelevant, and just because Fender decides to put a Badass on a couple of their sig models is even more irrelevant, considering that over 90% of their basses have the old bent-metal bridge. Face it, whether or not one likes one bridge over another does not "prove" that it's a better bridge. The bottom line is, it's all a matter of personal taste, not a matter of fact.

besides, players of that caliber both:

1) can unconsciously make anything sound good, and

2) are usually playing through top-shelf PA systems or in high-end studios with experts controlling the mix.

just like with the ol' "but this guy uses a 4x10 on a 1x15 stack" argument, this may ironically make famous players the least useful place to look for gear advice.
