Fender American Design Experience

Very nice! Feel free to use the giftwrap option and send it to me. :D

About to order this today. 64 AVRI Jazz neck on a P-Bass body. 1958 P-bass pickus and vintage bridge. The only things keeping it from being an AVRI variation is the finish and the price, really. And the neckplate, which I am going to have engraved with my daughter's name. She's 4 1/2 years old and grabbed my ipad while I was building one on the site. As a child of the iPad generation, she designed this one on her own and it turns out to be my favorite of all the options I toyed with. The plate will read:

Oh, dude... that is the most amazing thing ever!!

What a FANTASTIC idea!!! I wish I had thought to do that with my daughter.

:)

Why do I get the feeling that one of the most popular configurations that is going to come out of this are LOTS and LOTS of P-Basses with Jazz necks? Almost every P-Bass I've designed on the Fender site so far have had Jazz necks!

And Fletz, that looks like it's going to be a nice instrument. Even cooler that your daughter was the one who designed it. Enjoy!

I was seriously thinking about pulling the trigger on my creation (as stated above...a P with a J neck). I'm a thin neck guy (and I'm a sucker for blocks), but having the neck say "Jazz" on the headstock is a deal breaker for me. It just makes it look like a parts bass I put together myself. As a previous poster stated, resale does make a difference.

...

Too bad their standard issue basses don't offer that as an option, there's no reason not to offer A, B or C necks on any bass they sell.

I have an honest question, as I prepare to place the order:
I love my 08 American Standard P, so the body and bridge of that is on my love-it list. I do want rosewood and a Jazz neck. Is it worth the $200 difference for the AVRI jazz neck vs. the current modern American Standard Jazz neck?

Just another way of Fender making more money for the same product you see on the racks at your local music store.

Capitalism. That's what companies do. But I definitely see your point.

I'll say again, this is way better for us lefties who love Fender basses and whose options have been atrociously limited until now. It's a step in a cool direction I think.
I can't wait until my Jazz arrives.

I like what they've done so far. And it seems natural to me that offering more options increases the cost.

I do hope they add more choices in the future, though. I'd love to be able to get a '54-style P bass, including the single-coil pickup and the Tele headstock.
