Fender American Standard P-basses vs. Music Man Stingrays

The Fender is superior, because Musicman keeps forgetting to leave enough room on the left side of the headstock for all the tuners. Thus the workers have to place the remaining tuner on the right side which is poor quality control.

A new - as in brand new - Fender P bass is a nice bass ... but a EBMM Stingray has more tones and - to me - better feel. I say Ray.

Now, you turn that P in to a PJ and we have a different debate...

These are two VERY different basses, I don't think there is a decisive way to say which is better except for personal preference

I own one of each. I can't find a whole lot of common ground. It definitely comes down to the application.

I agree with the "apples and oranges" responses. I own a Precision V and a Stingray 5 HH and, even though I find I can use either in most situations, there times when I just want one or the other. And it's not always just because "that's what the song called for". Sometimes it's nice having the option of using a completely different sound.

BTW, forgot to mention that I have Lo Rider nickels on the SR5 and Chromes on the P, so the strings magnify the differences between the basses. But I did that on purpose. I love having the choice of those two very different tones.

Short answer, NEITHER is better. On their own they're simply different. Having both, the pair is even better than either on its own.

i would say the p, purely because i prefer passive instruments. i really like the music man, but it's just not for me.

My 08 Fender American Standard Precision has alot more beef than the stealth Musicman I played. So I go for Fender on this one.
