I've got a hankering for a 2012 Fender American Std Precision V and can't decide on the color. Top choices are Black/maple and Oly/rosewood. Runner up is Cola/maple. No interest in sunburst. I have a slight preference for a maple board, but the Oly/RW looks really good. Suggestions?

My suggestion is (no offense) make up your own mind. Seriously, you want us to tell what COLOR bass to get?
Flip a coin.

I could have written this, as I've been gassing for the same bass. I played one recently and loved it! The Jazz and P's since 2008 are absolutely awesome, but my go to bass now is a 5 string Lakland.

I already have a black and maple, with black pickguard, Precision, but it's a 4 string. I love sunburst, but already have two sunburst basses. So, its either cola or white, and I'm leaning toward the white . . . I know this doesn't help you, but it helps me to control the GAS!

I have a black & maple one. I do dig it. My second choice would be Olympic White with the tortise shell and rosewood board.

The Candy Cola is very cool too.

I wanted black, with the rosewood board & tortise shell guard but Fender wouldn't do it standard for me. So, I ordered this. It turned out o.k.

Thanks to all for playing along. I am reluctant to order the Cola because red's can be very tricky on a bass. The right shade looks great, the wrong one can be OMG fugly. And the reviews on CC have been mixed IMO. I think I will stop in my local GC tonight and see if they have any instrument in stock in that color. Black is black. Not particularly good, but almost never bad. I would probably replace the pickguard with something a sexier than white. I am now leaning towards Oly/RW. I have an 60th anny in blonde/ash with a maple board. So the slightly darker tone of the alder/rw would make sense.

Mine's the Candy Cola and maple. I didn't think I'd like it because I generally don't like either:
a) maple fretboards; or
b) Red basses.

But in person it was the nicest of the finishes in the store. They didn't have a 'burst one in, so I can't speak to that, but since the chances of me buying a sunburst bass are about equal to my chances of waking up to find myself president of the USA tomorrow, it just didn't count.

EDIT: This is not to say that I think you should buy the Candy Cola. I'm uncomfortable with telling you what to buy -- or telling you anything *other* than 'go out and try a bunch on for size.' I'm just saying that you might be pleasantly surprised when you see the candy cola in person.
