Fender American Std Precision V: Which color?

As artists, we are primarily driven to express our personal aesthetic. I can not, for the life of me, understand why you need other opinions on what color to chose. Kinda creepy.

Do need help picking a woman too? Post some pics, I'll let you know.... :hmm:

Relax, it's a fun exercise of imagination and vicarious bass shopping for the rest of us. What's creepy about it? I don't get it.

I own a 2011 Am. Std. P5 and it's just awesome. I've not owed a lot of basses, only 9 total (3 currently), but the P5 is my favorite of them all. I love the tone, the simplicity, and the wonderful feel.

I went with the classic Jamerson theme of burst with rosewood strung with flats. Just five string awesomeness.

So I ordered the black/maple. I tried to like the candy cola. Looked at several pictures and videos that included instruments in this color. I found myself trying to hard to like it. Personally, I think candy cola looks better with a rosewood board. Looks great in that combo with a black pickguard. Oly white is very nice too. Just a little too vintage for me. (I already have a 60th anniv., that's vintage enough for me.) What sold me was the pictures I saw of a black body, maple board and black pickguard. To me it projects attitude without being too flashy and a sense of solidness.

I will post pics when it comes in. Thanks all for playing along.

Based on the few basses I recently tried, I completely agree. There prices have gone up, at least on the American Standard series, but the quality has gone up so much more. They are definitely back in the the great value category. They lack the flash and innovation of some of the better boutique brands, but they are tops in the workhorse instrument category.

Hope your bass is as nice as mine is. Best part of ordering, it comes to you without having been pawed over in a store someplace. You get to break it in.

Very true - I ordered my 2008 black/maple, but two years later it was stolen. That's it in my profile pic, with a white pearl guard, which is what it was sporting when it was taken. This thread really makes me want a new one... Except maybe a P5 this time!

Exactly. :-) Good choice! Can't wait for pics, I've never seen a P5 with black on black and maple before, just 4s. Very curious.

There's an old thread somewhere on here where a guy has a picture of his. It looks quite hot. I really wish Fender offered it stock.

I have the oly/tort combo and love it. I've seen the Candy Cola in person on a Jazz V, and find it quite intoxicating. I'd like to have a second P in that color.

Vicarious shopping? That is more creepy than needing someone else's opinion (who don't even know) on what color you like.

Vicarious shopping or practice my bass, hmmmmm? Tough one!

You are absolutely right, I need to lighten up.
I am abandoning my self appointed "voice of reason" and moving to a much more fun and vicarious position...

I now believe in "Vicarious Practicing". So while you are vicariously shopping, you can also vicariously practice! Fun, so much fun. Only choose a color if you can find matching shoes and handbags! :p

What is making you so bitter, exactly?
