Fender is now coming out with a “ultra mega vintage modern series “ all others must be considered junk now......LOL. Fender just kills me !

One of Fender's strengths is their ability to make good metallic finishes.

It's a shame they didn't introduce any with this new series.

..That is the best color combo...love it...my friend in high school had a 25th anniversary Stratocaster (I'm old)..and I loved the silver with maple neck and black pickguard...always wanted and will get a bass with that scheme one day...nice!!

Hopefully never LOL. But I'm sure it would be nice if they had the option for those that don't like the bound/blocked looked.

I bought mine because the price was good ( at least to me ) other than that I was looking at a lot of different real good Jazz Basses before I got that I own now.

Something tells me younger generations won't be as brand loyal or have the hive-mindset that *cough* a lot of us have. They grew up in an era that rock (read: playing instruments) is not in the Top 40 (yes, I know....Tool). This means they don't have rock gods like past generations and won't run out the door at the sight of some Jimmy Page type sporting a new guitar or effect pedal.

There have been $2k Fenders around for quite some time...and people have purchased them.

I get some of the complaints and honestly it’s ok... could Fender have put out more color options ? Sure they could’ve but they didn’t.. As for the price ..let’s be honest when has any USA Fender been cheap ? IMO They never have been.My 77 Jazz Bass that my Pops bought for me back in late 78 cost him over $700.00 dollars and that was good chunk of change to spend on a damn bass back then.. I have the Ultra and the main reason I bought it because after all of what I heard that has been said about this bass , this instrument sounded f...ing amazing.. I just plug in and turn it loose and nothing else really matters when the people in the audience like what they hear and I like what I hear and feel..

I'm honestly starting to wonder if the name winds people up. It is a little pretentious and arrogant. I've had mine a year and a half now and not stayed anywhere over night without it coming with me. Originally I wanted a practice bass to save carting the Spector around. Don't touch the Spector now because I can't put the Ultra down. My playing is really coming on and that's down to the neck. My ear is also very inspired by the tone. More than with any other bass. If you offered me five grand for it, I wouldn't sell. I'm not a Fender aficionado but have owned them in the past with little satisfaction. I've also owned Alembics and played a few very high quality basses. Never had this much inspiration. I actually have the funds and viable excuses to buy a new bass and have tried Sadowskys, Mayones, Mike Lull but cannot find anything that turns me on the same way. I'm a total fanboy(but you all know that by now) ready to be proved wrong (if only to get my GAS back) but I can't see it happening.

Totally understand where you're coming from... and I did!

I've got a ridiculous number of basses man, like seriously way too many. There are folks here who have more than I do for sure, but I feel pretty silly sometimes saying that I have over 20 basses.

There's a custom Skjold that's awesome, and I have a killer Valenti and a Sadowsky, a kickass Japanese Dragonfly 5 string by Harry's Engineering, and of course my other Fender Elite 5. That's just a handful of my main players.

To illustrate how little of a life I have, about once a week for the past 5 or 6 months, I will get my top 6 or 7 basses and rotate them out for a few hours. I'll record them, and play them all over the same tracks or the same tune to see which one ends up being my favorite.

Guess which one always comes out sounding the best? Yup, the Fender Elite 5.

The other basses are fantastic - the Skjold is super flexible but the neck is too thin for me sometimes (I'm one of those weirdos who plays better on big chunky necks). The best playing bass is the Valenti. But there's just something about the Fender that gives me the whole package. It's got a great style and look, it feels amazing to play, and it always sounds exactly the way I want a 5 string to sound.

I've tried just about everything there is, and the Fender just works for me.

Now I will say, it's not my "favorite" bass. Just my favorite 5 string.

Dude I’m really appreciating your posting here. I am considering getting an ultra V tomorrow. Trying to decide if it’s worth it compared to other jazzes like Lakeland or sandberg or f bass, sadowsky etc.. wondeimg
How it will stand up to those because I want this to be pretty much my main five string and only five string jazz. I can get 48 month 0% financing and it’s on sale right now so that’s a big plus.
I’m ALSO veeeerry stuck deciding between the white or the mocha burst. I was dead set on the white but now can’t decide. I’d defintiely get a different pickguard too even though the stock one is cool. I was thinking black. Did you ever change yours? Also wondering if you still like it and how it might compare to others.
Ps, I too sit down and plug in every single different bass in a session

AFAIK none of the Ultra basses are MIM. Their names are Fender American Ultra and i have never seen Fender Mexican Ultra so there must be another bass you played, probably a Fender Player Plus that looks almost the same.

That was probably it. Advertised as an ultra. A surf green player plus precision. It was a nice bass.
