I can't speak for everyone else, but out of the 50+ various USA-made Fender basses I've owned over the years, my '75 AVRI Jazz is leaps and bounds nicer in almost all respects.
Edit: For full disclosure, I have quite a bit of direct experience with both '74 and '75 Jazz AVRIs; along with multiple American Series, American Standards, American Deluxe, true "vintage", and other years of AVRI in both Jazz and Precision. My '75 AVRI Jazz has the most durable finish, plays the easiest, has the most authoritative live tone, has the best attention to detail in terms of setup/fret work, and has the most beautiful wood grain I've experienced with a Fender.
