Fender Bass Amps?

what does everyone think about Fender bass amps?

I haven't been able to find many at any local music stores, so I haven't tried any but I know they are out there and I'm wondering what people think of them

so anything you know or have experienced with Fender bass equipment, please let me know I'd appreciate it

I own a Fender Bassman 400H and 4x10 Pro cab. Fender makes good quality amps. It doesn't seem to have the signature sound of the Ampeg SVT or G&K, or some of the boutique amps, but it does have a tweekable clean tone. It also handles effects well. I hooked up a tube preamp to it and it produces a nice warm tone and can growl some too.

I know the Fender Bassman 300 Pro is just a Sunn 300T with the Fender logo on the front, and 300T's sound amazing, so it follows that the Bassman sounds amazing too. The phrase I've always heard is "Updated SVT," because the guy who designed the SVT also did the 300T and thought of it as an improvement.

Then again, I don't know many people who like three-hundred watts of all tube tone, so that might not interest you.

thats surprising, considering the popularity of the Ampeg SVT for so long? not to mention the praise for the Sunn 300T, Trace V8 and the Peavey 400, but I can understand that alot of people don't like moving those things around, maybe thats what you meant...?

As for Fenders, The 300 Pro is a monster of an all tube amp, both sound and size wise, the Bassman 1200 is a hybrid version with the same preamp, but 1200 watts of SS poweramp, and then the 800 Pro is a pore SS preamp with the same 1200 power section...

Or you could try the TBP-1 tube preamp with the MB-1200 poweramp or any other poweramp of your choice if you want a pre and power setup? This gives a very tubey vintage type tone and has some nice features.

The 400 Pro is a smaller version of the 800 Pro, but sounds every bit as good and comes in a variety of cab combinations and puts out 500watts+ at 2ohms safely...

It all comes down to what size and sound you are looking for?

I used a Rumble at rehearsal the other night and it sounded really good. Set the EQ flat and went about 3/4 on the volume. If I could get that sound at a reasonable gig level, I'd be tempted, but it's going to take a really good amp to get me away from my Genz Benz.

I've loved & used a Bassman 100 for years. Loved it. Recently changed it for a Phil Jones - Hey does this mean I have to change my handle ?! Can ya do that on here? :eyebrow:

Swapped for a Phil Jones? That's a pretty big move.
Thanks, the playing got better. A combined tone & lifestyle choice. The only way I could find of keeping the sound big and the amp small. Far removed from some of the big stacks on here, particulary in this thread. Lets hope the Bassman 100 finds a good home. I would have been homeless if it came back home ! (her indoors!) Tilted Cab' wrong shape for a coffee table....

I've tried out a lot of equipment from gig rigs to the cheapest tiniest practice amps.

An Ampeg B-100r, Eden 400wt with a Bag End stack and a 400rb with a Bag End 15 didn't satisfy me. Why are we bass players so tortured over the sound in our heads??? I had picked up a Bassman 25 a few years ago and kept thinking wow, this thing, with it's little 10" driver sounds great, if only I could get this tone from a larger package.

Anyway, I had heard good things about the newer Bassmans so, I picked up a used 250/210. IMHO, matched with my SCPB, it's just heaven.

I have a Fender Bassman 150 combo amp and love it. It is more than enough for a small practice amp and can also handle small clubs. Great sound and very reasonably priced.
Almost purchased the Bassman 150 the day I bought the 100. For me the weight difference was huge for a little extra volume & as I was going to DI in clubs, the 100 was the business. If I could manage the 150 - I would have gone for it. I also found it an execellent keyboard monitor.

I got this head a few weeks ago, and the more I'm getting used to the quirks of the passive tone stack, the more I'm loving this amp. 400 watts @ 8 ohms into the OBC115 = stupid loud. I'm thinking of trying some different 12AX7s just for kicks, but I really don't need to, this sounds great as is!
