Is the low E of a Fender Bass VI, the same octave as a low E on a Precision Bass. (If tuned correctly?).
The ads say, "one octave below a regular six string guitar."

Yes, think of it as a standard short scale bass with two added higher strings. It's been used in bass capacity on Cream, Beatles, Soft Machine, Bill Laswell, and Cocteau Twins albums in the past, and more recently by Laura Lee of Khruangbin. The Cure used it in tandem with conventional four-string bass, and then there's the entire Tic-Tac tradition of Nashville country(which also employed the Danelectro six-string bass). You could possibly(with slightly thinner strings)use it as a baritone guitar, tuning from A to A or whatever, for a different in-between flavor. Then there was this famous solo…
