Fender Bassman 100T - chapter 2

Surpasses the Walkabout how?

Supasses it for me......I owned and loved my walkabout and it gave great tone and tons of power and headroom for days. It's still sitting at a local music company waiting for someone else to come along and love it some more.

I just bought a new Mesa TA-30 head and cab for my guitar stage rig - I love Mesa, they make amazing, quality (and very expensive) products!

But the 100T and the 410neo has the best tone I've ever played through.

And yes, that is strickly my opinion. I'm 50+ years old and James Jamerson is the beat that is in my head night and day.

Walkabout...headroom for days...

Those are not words I'd put together.
I love the Walkabout, but find it about 50-100% short of the power I wish it had.
If it was 600 watts, I'd take to every gig I had.

Sort of Off Topic rant, but Musician's Friend and Guitar Center always have the coupon codes on the website. However, NOTHING I ever look to buy is valid with the code. It is such a crock of you know what. I posted here as I was looking at the NEO 410 on there and wanted to rant!!!! :ninja: Oh well, once again I will spend my $$ elsewhere just b/c it pisses me off so damn much!!!

I have decided to get the 410 NEO though to match up with my 100T. I figure it is worth it based on the visual match (I know, but I hate the way the head hangs over the sides). The weight savings is pretty significant over my Epi PS410, so the two factors combined are worth the $$.

I didn't have to call to get the discount. Did the live chat online and told the MF rep the discount code didn't work and he replied "try this one". That one worked.

BTW, I was able to resist the GAS until they came out with the blond tolex/oxblood grillcloth versions. Bast*rds!

I reported last year that I was in the fortunate position of being able to AB the Fender neo 610 with the Berg 610, as I initially owned both. Played them side by side in my band room with the 100T. I ended up selling the Berg 610 as the Fender could cop the Berg 610 vibe relatively easily and had more lows and highs (with the horn) available if I needed them. With the weight advantage and matching looks going to Fender, I sold the Berg 610 and have never regretted it. That Fender 610 really can punch through at a loud live gig just like the Berg.
Now, my Berg NV215 is another story - absolute magic with the SB300, my favourite cab ever and it ain't going nowhere.....

update.....Ruby told me not to sell the 100t/610 neo:) We were on a date last night and she said "lets get our passports and run off to get married!" Shes comin around:)

That is awesome news! Just my opinion, but the biggest mistake made by young couples getting married, and I'll be non-p.c. and state it's woman driven - is spending an s-load of money on a wedding. All of that stuff from dress to cake to caterer to DJ is such a huge freaking overpriced racket it's unbelievable. Take that money, go on a nice trip and splurge, and you'll probably still have 10 grand left to put down on a house.

A BIG +1

Definitely call them. I can usually get whatever the sales discount is on items that are not included. They don't want to lose a sale.

Another option might be to build (or have built) a 215 like in this thread http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/custom-diy-2x15-cab-build-854517/

Agree 100%. But still do understand a woman wanting to make that day special and memorable......but not for $7000!!!!!!! anyways....yea im stoked. still thinkin about a nv158 to pair with my 100t for smaller gigs. got a gig all summer at a bar Ruby works at and its a pretty small place. Bass/backup vocals (urs truly), an acoustic/vocals and electric lead. I should try DI'ing it too tho but the behringer powered PA 15's and 4 slot mixing board is owned by the acoustic/vocals dude and hes a real stickler with it.

I'm at MerleFest, a major roots music festival in Wilkesboro, NC. The backlines at several stages this year have Super Bassman 300s and Neo 400s. Some so new they still have the stickers.

I know a sign when I see one. Yesterday afternoon, I went online and ordered a 400 to go with my 100T.

My wife (who I met when she came up and introduced herself at a gig) and I purposely pissed off our families by not only just going to a friend's office, who was a music minister, and getting married by ourselves, but also it was Friday the 13th by our choosing, which was her idea! This is the same woman who insisted we not have children, supported me while I got my mastering room on its feet, and bought me the 100T/410 Neo for my 60th birthday. Can they pick me or what!

Hi guys! I need your advice.
I received my 100t (probably the first one in post-soviet states haha) nearly month ago and it's for sure the best amp I've ever played. The problem is I am a total newbie in tubes and both pairs need replacement (the auto-bias lamps are red-orange-red-orange). I already know that GTs are crap, so I need your advice on which tubes should I set. I play in an aggressive and dirty sounding metal/hardcore band and I need as much distortion as possible. I heard Electro-Harmonix tubes are good, especially for aggressive tone, but I will be very grateful if you could advice some more. And what can you say about Sovtek tubes?
And the second question is do I need a matched quartet, or two matched pairs will be ok as well?

Thanks in advance!

Congrats on the amp!
But, WOW?!! one month? Even one year I'd be pretty dirty on em if my power tubes only lasted one year, let alone one month!
Do u REALLY thrash them.? Even so.??
If u really do need new ones.
www.thetubestore.com
www.thetubedepot.com are where I usually order from. They'll let u know what's best for that amp.
I've had good results with JJ tubes from www.eurotubes.com too.
Winged C, Svetlana are ok too.
I've even had good results with Sovtek. It's a bit of a crapshoot these days. That's why I'd recommend asking at tube store or tube depot for their views.
Goodluck.
Don't get rid of yr old tubes either, they may be ok, I always keep em unless they're totally fired:rolleyes:
