Fender Bassman 100T Chapter 3

Hey did anyone catch Randy Jackson tonight on Idol (yeah sometimes I watch it)? Didn't get a good look but I think he was playing through a Blonde 100T with the matching 810 cab. Maybe the 300 not sure but it sure looked like some Fender tube goodness.

I could not tell , I kept waiting to get a good look but they never showed one . I saw the blonde and it didn't look like the rigs he endorses

There was one time that the camera swung around from a little behind his side to center stage where I could see the tubes lit up , the big side handle on the amp, and briefly see what appeared to be the Fender logo on the cab. I wished I'd dvr'd it so I could look again. Almost positive it was the 100T and 810 cab
Wonder if he's endorsing Fender now instead of Markbass?

I'm seeing a new Fender Bassman 100T color option.."Super White". It available at a couple retailers online (amazon, guitar center) but can't seem to find any info on it. Anyone know anything about it? It looks like a package with 4X10 cab, is this is the only cab in super white? Will the 300 SB be avail in this color?

Fender has taken care of my problems in a TOP NOTCH WAY. As I told Rob their service could not have been any better than what I received. Thanks Rob, Gary and all the other folks there at Fender, Great service

Thanks Joe, Rob didn't waste anytime that's for sure. Let me know how it sounds, I am going to get one as soon as I can. I have tried a couple of different cabs and the amp sounds good in both but does not match and I sure like the looks of a matching cab.

Man, I would love the white! When I got mine in the black/silver, I didn't realize there was even going to be that 2nd color. Oh well, at least the black doesn't show scuffs and dirt!!!!

Good morning all,
So I had a gig this past weekend and as I was unloading my 100t off the stage the freakning rubber handle on top of the amp ripped off. I was able to literally dive under it to save the amp - and look cool in front of my wife, but my amp would have been toast otherwise. I contacted Fender and apparently this is a known issue of handle on top of the amp being defective. I want you all to be aware as Fender has a new handle they will send to you to make sure you don't ruin your amp but it falling. I'm attaching the email I recieved in case you are interested:

Hey Dustin,
First, thank you for contacting on this - and I apologize that this happened!
This has been an issue we have been dealing with recently - our Vendor for the handle had a faulty Press/Dye for the handles and we did not know what was happening until multiples started breaking.
We have since replaced the machines and dyes and the handles are coming out perfect - super sturdy the way they should be.
If you would like to reply to my email with your shipping address I would love to get you one of these new handles!
Thanks for your support!
Cheers,
Bryce Wells

Subject: Fender Bassman 100T
Good morning,
I recently purchased a Fender Bassman 100T about 4-5 months ago from zzounds.com, my second of this amp as I love it, and at a show this weekend the handle on the top broke off. I was able to catch the amp before it hit the ground but it scared the crap out of me. Anywho it was just the rubber handle that appears to have ripped off and I’m wondering how I get a replacement.
Thank you,Dustin Fennessey

i'm still debating on which rig to get (100 vs 300). How do you like the 100t? good headroom with the 4x10?

You know, the headroom has been fine for me. That is coming from playing in a metal band with 2 guitarist using half stacks. That being said, I'm using an overdriven sound on the the Overdrive channel, so "clean headroom" isn't exactly a consideration. If you were looking for plenty of clean headroom, then perhaps the 300 makes more sense.

My other consideration was my surgically repaired neck and the weight savings of the 100t.

I finally got to try the Mesa Prodigy tube head, an amp I was very interested in (it was coming soon at the time I bought the Fender). Great little amp and really small and portable. However, I am very glad I got the Fender. Granted I only played it for a few minutes, but the Fender's overdrive channel fits what I am doing/need so much better. I found the Mesa a pretty clean tube sound. As I dialed up the gain, it had a spot with a quick jump to very dirty. There was not nearly the variation in dirt available on the Overdrive channel, no did I like the sound once heavily saturated.

Seams like the 'does the 100t have enough headroom' question should be made a sticky at the top of this thread, not criticizing those who ask, but it it constantly a concern.
Yeah, and also the "don't pick the 100T up by the top handle" warning, which has popped up once again. This 100T thread has gotten too big to expect people to read all of it.

The 100t is without doubt a great amp, but the headroom issue is very much a personal thing and totally dependent on the circumstances such as style, tonal preferences, cabinet and the room/gig/PA. I started this whole thread a long time ago and remain a fan, but in the end the 100t simply did not have enough headroom for me and I went with the sb300 which suited my tone better. I like a very clean tone and simply found that in some circumstances the 100t would go into power tube overdrive too soon for me. We do not play excessively loud (but neither are we quiet), and it does depend on the gig and cabinet, but for my purposes the sb300 was clearly a better choice.
I write this not to diss the100t, which is a great amp, but simply to avoid generic statements such as " The 100t does have enough headroom." It has way more headroom than the old Fender Bassmans for sure, but for some of us tbe sb300 will be a better choice. Tne sb300 does also sound a little different even at lower volumes, possibly due to the different power tubes, and for me I prefer the extra weight it seems to provide behind each note. Again, I remain a huge fan of tbe 100t but depending on taste you may find situations where you may wish for more headroom - especially if, like me, you like a very clean tone. For those who prefer the sound of power tubes on the edge of overdrive at lower volumes then the 100T will no doubt be a better choice. Horses for courses...................;)

ha i agree, the headroom question should be made a sticky at the top of thread. Without the benefit of test driving either amp with different cabs in my town, its tough to know which to pull the trigger. Getting close to ordering the 300 with 4X10 neo. That Super White color in the 100T looks pretty sweet, wish it was avail with 300

As most know on this thread, I have the 100T and am happy with the power tube saturation I get which fits my tonal goals. That said, I think a much overlooked benefit of the 100T is the post power section balanced output. That feature friggin' ROCKS! I love the tone it sends to F.O.H. and have had that opinion reinforced by many. :bassist:

Marc

I couldn't agree more. I've been using it that way as well due to the overdrive from the amp being part of my sound.
