Fender Bassman 100T Chapter 3

I've only played the Super Bassman but the 100T has the same pre but with 4 x 6L6's for power tubes.
My Super Bassman pairs well with any cab.
But. ..I like it best thru 15s. Either the Berg NV215 or the Fender Bassman Pro Neo 115 cabs (but have heard all the Bassman Pro Neo cabs are great) I'm pretty sure the 100T would be pretty similar with regard to cab pairing.

The NEO Bassman 810? Wow! I wish they'd do that here in Australia! I'd probly grab 2
It all seems so silly downunder, doesn't it Rod? We can only get the neo 610 and neo 810 in New Zealand, and it seems you guys can only get the neo 115 and neo 410 across the ditch in Oz. I have been screaming out to try a neo 115 over here for years, based mainly on your gas inspiring posts. When the line originally came out I was told that Fender USA said they wanted to promote the 610 for the 100T and the 810 for the SB300 and that is why we only receive these two options. Just wish the importers would get a little more adventurous.

Hi guys... help needed please.

I have a 100T... one of the first in the U.K. I believe when they were first released. I've used it for gigging extensively ever since and it's been amazing, still is, however, I'm not sure if I have a problem with the amp or tubes.

Just after finishing a half hour gig a couple of weeks ago, I noticed the 2b LED on the auto bias display was red and the 2a LED was orange. I thought ok, I've had them in there probably over a year so fair enough. I purchased a new set of matched tubes, and two gigs I've played since, the amp does the Same, I'm just in a gig now and during after soundcheck I noticed the LED are exactly the same, 2B red 2A orange. can the new matched tubes really be dead right away or is there an issue here with the auto bias.
Anyone have any ideas?

I've also noticed over the years that if the auto bias shows a red or orange tube, if I turn off the amp and turn back on again, the LED's will go back to green, but the manual states that if a bad tube is shown then the LEDs will show red or orange until the tubes are replaced... even if the amp is powered down and back on again, but this is opposite to what I've experienced.

I've read the early ones had dodgy auto bias boards.... is this correct? Does it sound like my situation has anything to do with that?

That sounds like an auto bias thing to me. Mine was doing kind of a similar thing and it was the ribbon cable connecting the auto bias board, which my tech said the Fender guy he talked to aluded that was actually the problem more than the actual auto bias board itself.

New to the club..... I purchased the SB300 and a Bassman 500 at the end of last year. The SB300 is my home rig that sits on top of my Berg NV610T awaiting outdoor festival gigs and the Bassman 500 was serving as the main gigging amp in small clubs due to its weight and same layout as the SB300. Well you guessed it, after hearing the tube goodness at home daily I opted to replace the Bassman 500 with the 100T for my main gigging amp. All I can say is wow.... I love this amp. Love the phat warmth and clarity. This is the kind of amp that truly makes you want to go to each and every gig. Cant wait to take it to my Wednesday night gig tonight for her debut there. Will be running my AVRI 74 Jazz and AVRI 63 P through it. Mmmmmm mmmmmm.

So there's a noticeable difference between the 500 and the 100T or Super Bassman?

Yes! All three sound very good but there is clearly a difference between class D power and tube power. Not one that my average audience can hear, but I can. Was thinking of selling the 500 but it sounds great and will make a perfect backup and main when I don't feel like humping 60lbs.

I think the audience. ..well. ..some of em. ..CAN tell. I get LOTS of compliments on my sound when using the SB (& strangely more when using just one 115 Bassman cab ) , more so than any other. ..:wideyed:
I've not played the 100T except in store. ... didn't have the "thickness" that the 6x6550s give the SB. I'd imagine the 100T is 'similar' in feel to my V4B Ampeg. ..100w all tube etc. ..
Sorry. ...but ime...nothing gives that fatness of the 300w all tube power section. Nothing. I've used 2K watt led sled s.s. amps. ..nup.
I'm not gloating or complaining. ..just starting what I've felt/heard over the years.
I started gigging at age 14 in 77 and I've tried all sorts of amps. Nothing has impressed me as much as the SB The Ampeg SVT-VR comes very close but at over a grand more $$ here, & 20lbs heavier. ..and no footswitch - able channels etc. ..
I take my SB to small gigs. ..sounds superb at low volumes too.

Yes and I got the 100T to get closer to the SB300 on my regular gigs. All three have the same preamp section AFAIK and have the same front layout and all three sound great. Just have to ask yourself how much you feel like humping on a regular gig. I play in some smaller rooms where even the 100T is borderline overkill. I may try it in 25 watt mode next time as we are not a loud band and I could see what tonal changes that offers.

I use the 100T almost exclusively @ 25 watts. Both in my loud cover band and not-so-loud (but loud enough) blues band. I think I used it @ 100 watts one time last year on an outdoor gig that didn't have FOH support for bass. It's a beautiful thing.
